Seems like bungie has a way to track which weapons groups are overly popular and usually adjust. Their reasoning for nerfing AR's was that too many people were using them in crucible(they were in fact dominate for a long stretch after launch). I tried using suros last week but it just wasn't the same:( I've got vanquisher and the new monarchy(forgot it's name) that I used to love rotating between but now they're collecting dust.
