How do YOU beat Thorn?
It's time to UN-SCRUB!!!
I'm seeing a lot of posts on Thorn lately, and so have you. IB has brought out the Thorny-Pain-in-my-Felwinter's Lie side of people, so I want to know:
How do YOU counter Thorn?
If you're winning Thorn encounters 7+ times out of 10, what weapons are you using? Do you rush or evade?
I'm looking for (Gun + Tactic) = WIN

Red Death. The healing prevents you from getting killed by the Thorn's DoT even though the DoT cancels it. And the 3 bullets stagger your opponent enough to make it extremely hard for them to land that 2nd headshot.

Use an auto rifle that messes up the aim of the person your hitting and strafe back and forth unpredictably.

I use Thorn (and other weapons as well). So, when I'm running my Thorn, I am playing a mid-range game. Thorn is one of the best mid-range weapons out there. 1.) So, the first way to defeat a Thorn user is to engage them in a different range than mid-range. MIDA and Vision of Confluence can easily take down a Thorn user - because you can start engagement when they're not even aware that you're there. Snipers also offer this benefit. The Last Word, Shotguns and Fusion rifles are also another great strategy to take down Thorn users - because you're getting in close combat with them. TLW can easily out gun a Thorn in close combat, and shotgun / fusion rifle can be OHKs. 2.) Now, if you're going to engage a Thorn user in mid-range, you need to be using a comparable mid-range quality gun. Hawkmoon, Red Death, Vex Mythoclast, Three Little Words are all guns that with varying degrees of skill, you can use to take down a Thorn user. Red Death really is the Yin to Thorn's Yang - the two balance each other out. 3.) If you get the jump on a Thorn user, you have an advantage with most weapons. If you don't and the Thorn user gets the 1st hit on you - you must seek cover immediately. Don't engage a Thorn user on their terms. That is a loss. If you get caught out in the open - you're dead. So, be aware of cover at all times - especially if you know that there is a Thorn user. With most weapons, multiple people taking on a person at once can overwhelm them. So, be aware of your teammates, and take advantage of having them around helping you take down others. The other really big issue with the Thorn has absolutely nothing to do with Thorn. It has to do with ARs. They have been nerfed too much comparatively to other weapons. This is one of the reasons why Thorn seems OP'd at the moment - a whole class of weapons can't compete. A buff to the ARs, so that they can also be a good midrange option to take on a Thorn would also help a lot.

I don't use thorn. I kill people with thorn. Problem? Nope, I'm just not garbage and don't have to blame bad play on a gun. Just some fyi, Vex > Thorn Red Death > Thorn TLW > Thorn Three Little Words > Thorn Strangers Rifle > Thorn If you blame thorn then quite simply, you just suck at this game. Id even be willing to bet you people complaining run a shotgun in secondary as well.

1 Replythis seems like a Xbox problem. I see why thorn can be op with a player who has thumb skills however everyone will have an opportunity to obtain one with the bounty. if you're having trouble Completing the bounty because of the pvp part then that answers your question to why you're getting owned. you'll almost guarantee lose every gun fight if your opponent lands their shot first. try to be elusive and play cat and mouse to better position yourself.

The Vex. It is seriously under utilized in Crucible. TTK is so fast that it puts Thorn and everything else to shame.

Fire bolt Grenade and a shot with a hand cannon so timurs lash for me

I use the MIDA to counter it, if I can get a headshot on the opponent then the stagger makes them flinch and they miss their kill shot on me and i can survive the DoT affect

I just move more tactically. Mida is what i use mainly now. Some games my kd is 1.9 or better others im below 1.0.. It depends on opponents tactics. I have games where i can swing 20 kill streaks and others i cant get two in a row.
