It depends on why they were taken out. There's video footage of a player glitching the game and being able to kill other guardians on patrol. If that's the reason that they're out they can stay out.

  • if that's legit then no way it's a glitch. That's someone with a modded game. And if it's someone with a modded game then there's really not much you can do about it. The solution wouldn't be to take out blades or crota. I can kill a team mate with my sparrow. Does that mean bungie should take sparrows out of the game too? That's not a good enough reasoning on why not to have something in the game

But... Bumping each other with sparrows is a deliberate mechanic, sparrowcide appears to be an intended feature. Killing other players with the sword? Not capable of making that assumption. Killing each other with sparrows is limited to players within your fireteam. With the exception of matchmaking, you have control over who you team with and you can't sparrow other random players in the world at large. The sword issue appears to allow out of immediate fireteam mayhem. Regarding whether it is appropriate to remove the swords from the game or not... Ignore the implication that I'm ok with them being removed permanently, I was being flippant and didn't really mean it. However, if there is an issue at play and that is why they were removed I do find it acceptable to temporarily remove the swords as it makes an immediate fix while the issue is investigated. If you have a server online and someone starts exploiting the server, you don't just leave what's being exploited available and in place - you remove access while investigating the issue. However, that's also a really big if in this case because I don't know why the Blades were removed from patrol. I was just saying "what if?" Given the timing of their disappearance it's really quite reasonable to assume that it's in preparation for HoW. Also given the timing related to the unintended change for Winter's Run, it's also reasonable to think it could have been another unintended change. What I wonder is why Bungie hasn't made a statement as to why they disappeared because giving that small amount of information would cost so little and seems like it's really low hanging fruit when it comes to engaging their audience.

  • how about matchmaking? Matchmaking you have no choice on who is on your team unless you have a full fire team. Even I'm guilty of this.... You know a boring day you decide to do the weekly heroic. So now your teamed up with 2 other random guardians and well, right before you hop into the action you decide to take your sparrow and thrust it into a violent poke at your teammate that pins them up the wall so fast that they get killed. Sometimes their body flies across the screen in a humorous fashion. I don't think this was ever intentional by the way. But heck it sure is funny. But I'm not a total a hole. I only do it right at the beginning. I wouldn't do such a thing in the middle of a match when someone might have a bounty that requires doing a raid without dying. On a side note everyone I have ever done it too .Never had a problem with it. They just laughed it off. Or tried to do it right back... ah fun times team killing.

  • I did mention matchmaking. "Intentional" could be a tricky word in this case. Was sparrowcide itself intentional? Can't know for certain, but the individual mechanics that allow for sparrowcide do appear to be intentional (ie: being able to push each other and taking damage when impacting surfaces.) It could be unintended consequences, but the mechanics that allow it are deliberate.
Even if not intentional I get the impression that the devs knew what they were making possible with those features and fully expect that devs were sparrowing each other during testing.
• Someone posted it here a while back. Easy enough to find again since Google / Youtube remembers everything I watched.
