Try this:
1. Check all of your characters and your vault
2. Log out and retry step 1
3. Sometimes the lost item will reappear out of nowhere a few days later
But if none of this works report this issue here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/106600404/0/0 to help bungie prevent this from happening in the future

Yeah - tried everything. Tried today in the evening and checked all characters and vault. Even checked the postmaster live (not through ap) and nothing there. I lost it yesterday so been a day at least before reporting it. It's just gone :(

Yeah Bungie doesn't replace lost items no matter how it happened sorry but it's gone for good sadly.
