Bungie - Destiny - Future

Dear Bungie, For a long time I have debated posting my critiques of Destiny on your forums – mainly to gauge how you as a company would react towards the criticism of others. As an individual who stopped gaming a number of years ago, I decided to come out of retirement and give Destiny a shot. With all of my PVP stats in the top 25% (or better), 77 VOG completions, and 186 Crota completions, I feel as though I might be able to provide you with some valuable feedback. With the recent 1.1.2 update, I must commend you on finally giving users: 1. Updated vault space (this was definitely needed). 2. Colorblind support (extremely helpful for individuals such as myself who have this issue). 3. Audio Controls (my wife thanks you for this). With that being said I feel as though: 1. The Dark Below expansion was a waste of money. With Destiny costing about $60.00 and the Dark Below Expansion about $20.00 – I feel as though the expansion should contain at least 1/3 new game material when compared to the original. 2. While I can overlook a lacking “Storyline” since a majority of Destiny gameplay is done post story, I am beyond furious that House of Wolves will not include a new Raid. Many users I play with do not like playing PVP, however a bulk of new material seems to be geared this way. Raids are the most interesting portion of this entire game, and by deciding to not include a new raid you are failing much of your fan base. 3. Vault of Glass is my favorite raid. The difficulty, playability, and overall detail that went into its creation are far superior to that of Crota. Crota seems as though it was thrown together haphazardly, and is quite disappointing. 4. While I am aware bungie can change anything… at any time… The fact that 2 new social areas, 1 strike, three new missions (with three quests), and Trials of Osiris and Prison of Elders will be in the new DLC is again… disappointing. Social areas and missions do not really equate to game replay ability. Trials of Osiris do for individuals who enjoy PVP, however I don’t expect much from Prison of Elders (especially if Crota is an indication of end game PVE). 5. I can understand the reasoning behind random loot drops for raids, pvp, etc., as this is only done to increase replay ability. Once an individual has every weapon there is no real reason to continue to play Destiny; however this is a sign that the game itself is not interesting or challenging enough. There is nothing driving an individual to be good at playing this game – it actually appears to be the opposite. While I appreciate Destiny, it is becoming less and less appealing to play. I don’t know many people who care about new DLC rare guns, ships, etc. as they have almost NO impact on the game. I only write this because fewer and fewer people continue to play – which is disheartening for a game I do enjoy. Lastly, bungie highlighting the change of a stupid purple ball is a perfect example of bungies apparent priorities; focus on the trivial details of a meaningless item instead of including a new raid. I (as well as many others I play with) are judging our future Destiny playing based upon House of Wolves. Without a new raid... it is already not looking good for continued playing.

  • I agree with most but not random loot 8 months and still no ghorn, and why haven't they added mouse and keyboard option in the game like ffxiv did. I had to spend 150 on the xim4 to play this on mouse and kb

  • Bump. I find myself playing less every day and sometimes not at all. Just in the last week ive logged in about 3-4 times and found my self turning my xbox off or playing other games such as GTA. Sucks cause i enjoy this game and invested a lot of time trying to form my own raid team (for HOW) with friends that i got to start playing around TDB release. Meh ill play HOW cause its been payed for. But sadly i dont see much future after that.

    • The points you have made are what led to me not playing this game anymore. I really wanted this game to be amazing but it's a solid average game that got boring because of the grind

They really had a great opportunity to explain the lack of a raid in the weekly update, as they said they did not take the decision lightly...but used their update to not address it at all. I understand Deej has his hands tied with what he can and can't say. But I wish the people who regulate him allowed him to convey their reasoning...

    • Destiny has a future in equal proportion to its story. Think on that.

      • Everything you put out above is true. But, let me explain to you what has happened here... There is a serious drug abuse problem at the game studio. It's rivals most rock bands. Honestly though the reason why Destiny sucks so hard is because good people LET corporate A-Holes run the show.

Agreed. Bungie fails yet again to grasp what the players want or need. As a player who has played from day one. Nothing in that update interests me in the slightest. Maybe the update was targetted more towards the Christmas noobs. But as a player who pre-ordered Destiny, the update did not ful-fill any of my wants or needs for this game. I did see a band-aid fix of the vault, which then was quickly filled up by items from the mailbox. I truly hope that Destiny 2 will live up to the expectations of players. Because Destiny 1 had Activision paws all over it. Please don't let it happen again Bungie. We all know you can do better.

Our reasons for feeling dissapointed are different, but our sentiments are the same. Although I don't feel the same way about the missing raid, the fact that two groups of people can feel equally let down by totally diffetent things in one game (I fall in the camp of PvE players who is outraged at the lack of story), is not a good sign. I don't play any PvP,so I can't speak for them... but I've seen plenty of angry posts from their end too. I don't understand Bungie's coy attitude. A purple ball? Facial hair for guardians? It feels like they're trying to distract us with superficial bobbles. The house is on fire, but look at the sweet new door knobs! I just want to be leveled with. I got the season's pass (wouldn't if I had to do it over again), so I'm gonna try HoW regardless, but what I really want is a sense of weather or not Comet is going to be any good. Sadly, the more they avoid the real issues (whatever camp you fall in), and keep beating around the bush, the less confidence I have in them. I could be wrong though. I may be completely out of touch with the comunity, but I've been all over these forums for a while and at no point did I feel that what the comunity longed for were beards, and a spruced up purple ball. Im surprised there is going to be another social area already. The tower is strangely large for what is actually in it. There are closed off rooms everywhere you look yet HoW will have an entirely new 'tower' type environment? Is it going to be Tower for noobs and higher level for Reef? Are the vaults available in the Reef or do we have to make back and forward trips? How many new types of currency and materials are we going to be grinding for with the Reef's new vendors? The Tower is not much of a Guardian "hang out" since interacting is reduced to waving and pointing and kicking around some weird physics possessed ball. A ball is better than no ball I guess but Id prefer to see the current social area improved in other ways that could breathe new life in there (like, why the hell is the bar in the ass end corner of the Tower?). Perhaps do something like open up the Traveler's Walk area and have sections like Iron banner where you could mill around under banners that would advertise NF and Raids NM/HM to make it easier to find groups. The only vendor worth going to now is Xur so why not more gear options, shaders etc. DIY shaders anyone? The Tower is basically a big menu system where you can run around in 3rd person view and has mostly redundant characters and vendors for higher level players. Is a shiny new version necessarily better?

          • I lost interest in Destiny back in Feb. I thought maybe HoW would bring me back, but honestly I have no interest without a raid. And like the OP said, there's no reason to play other than grinding for gear. Too many other games coming this summer and fall to get hung up on this bull.

            • People act as if TDB and HoW weren't cut content lol. I find it shitty we have to pay 100$ for the game we were promised at launch. 3missions, 1 strike, 1 pvp mode and 1 horde mode? For 20$? Nah man

Bungie - Destiny - Rest in Peace All what i know is. That bungie takes much care about stats. Stats like /which weapon been used much and which one not. And they do care much about NERF posts. And the second one is not Professional for an Company. It makes them very fragile. I have buy this game like 99% of all people in destiny because the PVE part..thats what destiny should be. because its the biggest potential. If i want a good shooter i play games like battlefield or cod. They doing failures one by one...sorry for this awfull english. its not my main language..

                • Hopefully by Bungie admitting that PVP is dead this will help them realize that the COD strategy of DLC will not work for Destiny, and they will have to develop more content for PVE in the upcoming DLC.

From a market standpoint, Destiny's DLC content is comparable in value to any other shooter. Let's use another high profile shooter COD:AW(or halo map packs) as an example to compare DLC. You get 4 multiplayer maps for 15 bucks which equals to roughly $3.75 a map. Destiny, love or hate them, has 3 maps for PVP, which by market standards adds up to $11.25. I would say that the Raid is equal to 3 maps because it features 3 zones, but I anticipate that you will argue about that, so let's say 2 maps which is a total now of 18.75. Now, just to be super fair, I'll add up the total zones from all the story missions and strikes as 1 mission/map!!! We are now, including new weapons and armor at $22.50 at current market value for DLC. This will not even include any weapons, armor, ships, or shaders. My question would be, why does this game take heat for providing content at the same market value as other shooters in the genre? I've heard intriguing arguments such as... The semantic argument: it's called an expansion so we deserve more than market value. Answer: It wouldn't be called a "map pack" because it features more than just PVP maps. Terms such as, expansion and map pack fall under the umbrella of "DLC". The appeal to higher expectation argument: Bungie created Halo, the game that changed console shooters and put Xbox on the map, we expected more. Answer: market value can be quantified, as I have illustrated, however, expectation is subjective and varies from person to person and cannot be quantified, which leads me to... The appeal to the Majority argument: Most people agree that TDB was a rip off so that makes it true despite contrary evidence. Answer: philosophy 101, this is a logical fallacy and holds no weight in any discussion. The "it's my opinion" argument: well, I don't care what you say, I don't think the maps are good so, I still think what I think, it's my opinion. Answer: everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not everyone is entitled to facts, or else we're all right or we're all wrong, which renders all discussion moot. In this scenario(which these forums perfectly illustrate) nothing said has any value or rational, and cannot spur real change.

                  • Agreed. But I think a smaller team is experimenting with destiny and already existing assets while trying to please players in preparation for destiny 2. We need to shape Destiny and tell them what we want. Less grinding/repetitiveness, better story and story missions, more personality and life, and more raids...

                  • all i have to say is that it is total bs that bungie is forcing pvp down our throats again. exotic bounties never should have force us out into pvp. pvp in destiny should be no more then 10% of destiny. the vast majority of ppl only pve. bungie is taking out raids and replacing them with pvp. wtf is bungie thinking. what is wrong with them......dam.
