With the majority of vendor and exotic weapons having kinetic damage, it often pigeonholes our loadouts to raid weapons only for certain encounters. I do enjoy most of the raid weapons but the perks are definitely optimized for the raid in question. I would like to see a way to enhance our poor kinetic damage primaries, so my suggestion is a consumable that adds an elemental burn to an equipped primary weapon for 30 minutes (or something)
Let us wreck the arc burn nightfall with arc SUROS, Hawkmoon or Bad Juju! Much of the fun in Destiny is changing our loadout to take advantage of whatever situation we're in, why not increase our options?
Edit: Thanks for all the positive feedback! I've given some thought into just how to balance a change like this. There are some concerns about keeping the challenge intact and having raid weapons still desirable. There are also technical challenges, such as consumables buffing the player rather than a specific weapon. Here are my more detailed suggestions:
-The Nightfall is the pinnacle of non-raid PvE content. Therefore an item that is targeted at the Nightfall (primarily) should be attainable through rewards building up to running the Nightfall. My proposal is that they cost 25-50 Vanguard Marks for a stack of 5. Strange Coins are another option, but I like the idea of the Vanguard Quartermaster selling items that change up how we run PvE strikes.
-The item should be designed around use for difficult encounters in the Nightfall, not the whole strike. A 10 minute duration with a 30 minute cooldown should be adequate. That allows for one use per strike (based on average completion times)
-The item should only modify kinetic damage primary weapons. The difficulty here is if it would modify the player or the weapon. While per-weapon is better for balance, other items (so far) only affect the player so it may not be possible for a consumable to just modify a weapon. The other balance consideration is keeping special/heavy weapons relevant.
We've also got to think forward. While the Nightfall is really the only current activity where an item like this makes sense (VoG being another), what does the Prison of Elders hold? If the encounters there are going to be random and may contain burns, I like the idea of using consumables to modify burns rather than swapping between several primary weapons each wave/encounter. Carrying a few favorite weapons into the Arena rather than an entire arsenal of "I'd rather not take this but need it just in case" weapons sounds more fun to me.

Edited by Iront Mesdent: 5/28/2015 1:50:28 PMWhy not elemental primary ammo pack? Works like synthesis, refills your ammo with a certain type of elemental damage? That way it only affects your primary. After exhausting the elemental rounds, you fall back to kinetic rounds and wait for the cooldown to reset.

Edited by TheRiftsplitter: 6/7/2015 12:16:11 PMThe end of your post really hit home for me. I seriously take my whole vault into the prison just so I can conquer anything that happens I take 7 exotic primaries and 2 raid weapons. I take 3 exotic specials and 3 legendary snipers with all elements and 3 shotguns with all elements. For heavy I take ghally and 3 machine guns with all elements.

Kinetic burn?
-
This would make doing the end game content pointless
-
Bump. I thought of this today. I also thought of an idea for rerolling primaries, give a chance to do a super reroll which adds an element to your gun say 5 or 10 percent chance
-
realy good idea man

Bump.

Edited by Megaman: 6/5/2015 10:30:32 AMHoly tits, bump to infinity and beyond! It's also be ok with exotic primaries just being given elemental damage.

BUMP BUMPIDY BUMP!!!

Bump. Cool idea

Cool idea, but the raid primary's damage modifiers make it kinda redundant, let alone the possibility of making raids less purposeful than they already are

Yes! Bump this

I like the 30 min consumable elemental burn buff. This should happen soon.
-
I think a good idea it to add a burn on a weapon for etheric light at the gunsmith.

Heck yes.

I definitely think you should be able to purchase a burn for your guns. But only once per weapon and only for weapons that do not already have a burn.
