Red Dearh Downgraded!!
Okay, it's my first time fully upgrading an exotic via xur. I paid 7k glimmer and bought a shard and upgraded my red death, but all it did was downgrade it! What the hell happened?? Is Xur being a dick today?? Somebody helpppppp plsssssss

The upgrade weapons from Xur is designed for Exotics that were earned before the expansion "The Dark Below" launched. Exotics acquired after that are automatically the 2.0 version. The Xur upgrade section is to upgrade items with 300 attack/30 light (v1 exotics) to items with a max 331 attack/36 light (v2 exotics). Upgrading resets all XP progression (basically trade in what you currently have, for a minty-fresh v2 item). If your weapon already has a max attack of 331, there is no reason to upgrade it with Xur. Armor could possibly have a higher stat roll (intellect, discipline, strength), while having the same max light.

Do you have dark below? The upgrades (on weapons) are only for those exotics which were obtained prior to the update to dark below. I believe all exotics obtained after dark below launched were adjusted to the new values so the upgrades are not required post dark below install. The upgrade will reset all progress on a weapon or armor. However on armor pieces, you may be able to get better stat rolls.
