Biggest concern is the fact that consumers aren't smart enough to know that we deserve better consoles/games. It's pretty easy to say that xbox/playstation should be better and that games are often overhyped. At this point barely making 1080p(or less in many cases) and 30fps is not acceptable. Truly, next gen was not next gen. What it comes down to is the consumer, we allowed this to happen by blindly accepting products from companies that don't concern themselves with consumers but rather the consumers money. Just my .02$

  • It's early on in both consoles lifetimes but I agree that most gamers don't seem to understand practices in my OP are wrong and the damage they are doing to our beloved pastime by pre-ordering etc. Which in turn leads to some underwhelming current gen games.

  • 1: yes it's early in the generation but from my point of view having seen consoles evolve since the snes, this gen is very underwhelming. Last gen of consoles was running up there with high end pcs at launch, it seems like this gen has taken the opposite approach. I don't mean to come of as masterrace or anything(having only been on pc for about a month) but I think both would've benefitted from being in development a bit longer. That said I do believe that last gen is holding the current back. Like I said though, in my opinion, barely making 1080p(or implying that it's a feature in some games) and playing in 30fps(again 60 fps is a "feature") is not an advancement to me. It will obviously get better and games will look better as developers learn to tweak things in their games but I'm not sure how far they will evolve in comparison. I don't wanna come off wrong or anything, just trying to be as objective as possible. 2: I will preorder games if I get some sort of incentive to do so. It's gotta be something good for it though, for example I bought the witcher 3 for 20% off be owning the previous 2 and can download early to play at launch(50 gigs will likely take awhile).

  • It's not that I don't agree with a lot you have said, especially when companies outright lie and say 1080p 60fps will be standard and it obviously is not. I just feel we haven't seen the best they can offer yet, though I agree the jump from last gen to this gem was not as obvious as some generations beforehand. I am not saying don't support companies that make good games and have good practices (free DLC in Witcher 3) is to be commended, however I feel pre-ordering is damaging the industry in a perverse way. We should wait s couple of days after release and give outlet money to those companies that deserve it and not blindly pre-order. Would a couple of days after release really hurt you?

  • I agree we haven't seen everything(I certainly hope not as I plan on keeping my xbox) and in the case of the witcher 3 I would've payed a bit more for a game I would buy anyways, that said I trust the company and respect them at this point(they are the acception not the rule). Other than that I don't preorder.

  • Do you like racing games? Forza Horizon definitely show the future potential of the Xbox One, it looks gorgeous but also is addictive as blam. I think the new consoles have a lot of potential. 2015 is going to be great I hope, personally Halo 5 is my main desire =}

  • Not huge on racing games, but they are usually the easiest to run so I wouldn't be surprised if it is one of the better looking games

    Each to their own. You maybe right I do not know about easier to run but my point still stands, this is an early gen game that looks truly looks spectacular. My experience with all consoles in the past is that they slowly release the potential of the consoles power as the years pass. Games at a start of all consoles lifetimes are nearly undistinguishable from those that appear at the end of the consoles shelf life. Especially in recent years, at least from owning a various consoles from Sega, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony, both now and in the past that has been my personal experience. But hey the futures bright whichever bit of plastic you prefer, some good games are due to come out on all systems this year.

  • Yea racing games in general are easier to run because 1: they don't need higher resolutions in environments because your moving through them quickly and 2: there's not tons of stuff happening on screen ie shootings, explosions and fish AI. Yea there's some pretty good looking stuff coming but the amount of remasters is starting to bother me, just found out they're remastering the god of war series. Personally at this point remasters are one of the worst things IMO. I want something fresh man, I just picked up shadow of mordor and it's the best game I've played from this year so far. It's not exactly super original (combat borrows heavily from batman) but it has new ideas and I like risky games.
