That image sums up everything perfectly bravo! The only place I disagree with you is that the chronological order needs to be the only option for everyone. If two people can veiw the same converstation in two different ways there will be added confusion. The only downside to a forced chrnological order is that you would have to hunt for people's replies to a particular comment (instead of them being bumped back to the top). This is fine with me because most replies being used as a mini discussion between two or three users (not benefical to the entire converstation) and you get updated on replies anyway so if you are that user in the side converstation you can get to the reply through the notification system.

 •
Posted by: gestuart88 That image sums up everything perfectly bravo!
Thank you, it's a new feature I wanted to take advantage of. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I figured a diagram could help me shave off 2000 to 3000 characters or so I would have spent trying to verbally explain how the system would work in my mind. Also I got to weave in your mom jokes, so that's a plus. Scott Kankelborg would be proud. This idiot totally thought he had lost his cat!" to which he replies "What? All I see is a post about a guy getting an A+ on his test", two people should be able to reply normally to the thread. If you could elaborate as to what there would be to be confused about, I could have a better understanding as to what you mean. Again, it's a strong reason for having both options.
My imeadiate concern is about new young memebers when Destiny hits. I teach 7th grade so I deal with 12-13 year olds on a daily basis, and if the community is going to have to help them out it would just be nice to compare apples to apples. And we could say, "look 2 posts up" and they know what we are talking about instead of 3 step process of changing settings and the like.
Especially since comments are stored in a continuous page rather than pages of 25 posts
If the chronological order became the norm then we would need pages to keep track of the conversation. That combined with the link to the most recent post would make it much easier to get into a conversation, pick up right where you left off, and contribute to the discussion.
