I think it's gone already. Gaming has become such a cash cow and now it's all about the visuals-instead of the gameplay.
Back in the 90's you had the last of the great rivalries, Sega VS Nintendo, then Sony joined in. The three consoles had an epic battle for supremacy releasing great titles for all platforms. Unfortunately Sega had to call it quits, and The battle was fought to a draw between Sony and Nintendo.
For me, gaming's greatest days were over once Microsoft joined the industry. Of course it's gunna be about money, it's a business, but back then, devs loved the games they made, and it showed. Now, every game feels the same. Fun for a week and a chore any time more.
15 years ago, I would have been able name multiple games that I loved to play regardless of how many times I had beaten it. I can't name one single game released since. It's sad really. But thankfully, I kept my classic consoles. So I can go back at any time and enjoy those old games whenever.

Edited by Psyntifik: 3/11/2015 5:03:30 PMIf I read this a while ago I would agree with you. But right now I think a few developers are emerging that do show a "substance over sales" attitude towards their games and their fans.
-
I noticed some of the kickstarter backed games are pretty good. Project cars and road redemption being two of those that go straight to the fans for what they want to see in game. It's a rare thing tho.
-
There is also a decent number of bigger names in the industry that have kept true. You're right, it is rare. But I think it will become more common as the years go on.
-
Aside from blizzard, I haven't noticed any developers that go to their fans for actual feedback that makes into the games.
-
343, Bethesda, the developer that made Smite, High Moon Studios (though they're disbanded now), just to name ones off the top of my head. There are many developers that listen to their fans, gamers just love to demonize the gaming market for one or two bad things.

Edited by Psyntifik: 3/11/2015 7:47:45 PM... Namco CD Projekt Red Rocksteady Red Barrels Square Undead Labs Telltale Dying Light (Can't remember the Dev. But despite no review copies and the shipping problem to EU, that game landed on its feet).
-
What's namco developing now?
-
A few things. TEKKEN Witcher They also just popped out DBZ and a New Tales game. The new Dark Souls is around the corner.
-
Edited by MechanixX: 3/11/2015 7:16:04 PMI did not like the new tekken. Lol feels too child like now. And dark souls isn't developed by namco. It's done by From Software.
-
You may not have liked TEKKEN, but to the engaged community, Tag2 is the best one yet and pro players have an active role in testing and developing them. And Dark Souls was published by Namco.

I dont think its about the visuals. If it were most people would be playing on PCs
-
I have a pc, I don't see a vast difference in visuals, personally. Sure the sky may feature stars or whatever. but for consoles, it's largely about visuals now.
-
Edited by AnayySkywalker97: 3/11/2015 4:00:29 PMWhat kind of PC do you have? The difference in visuals is huge, granted you have a decent PC
-
It's a custom built one my friend did up for me as he's a whiz with the whole pc thing. I gave em 1500$ and told him to build whatever he could. Lol it's fairly old, so I have to get a new video card and motherboard, wouldn't mind some more ram and a larger hard drive either. I've had it for four years. So when I got it, the visual difference between console and pc was definitely noticeable, but not by very much. And that's on max settings.
-
What are the specs? If you know them. If honestly you cant see the visual difference I would be astonished. Not to mention the gap is only growing with the recent availibality of 4K resolution, granted you need a powerful build. Even with 4K you can still get more fps on a PC, than a console can with 1080p
-
I know it's getting more powerful for PCs and the higher frame rate, especially with 4k, and I don't know the specs to it off hand.
-
There you go then buddy. I suggest you upgrade your PC bud
-
Too expensive to do now. And I hardly touch it. So long as it can run the few games I do still like to play, I'm happy with it. Having to upgrade to play games that, for the most really suck and just 'look' good is a complete waste. But there's really not a huge noticeable difference. I played advanced warfare on my friends comp(terrible example I know) his setup can run any game on max settings, he upgrades as soon as new tech shows up. I noticed little difference in visuals compared to the console version. Aside from my character being shinier, and beams of light shining in my field of view that would blind me if I aimed upwards, there really isn't any difference.
