To you and all the other people wondering if this sort of post is a good idea. You are openly and obviously committing Fraud. This is not a joke and if Bungie decided to make an example of you they could: 1. Ban you from the game 2. Get you banned from PSN 3. Report you to the police The police in most countries cannot just issue a caution for fraud as it is a serious offence at any level for whatever purpose. It's set up this way as it's a direct reflection of the sort of person you are (unscrupulous). This means you will get a criminal record and be unable to get certain jobs or travel to certain countries. EVER. All for a gun in a game.

THE POLICE!!!!??? How would they begin their report do you think? "Help us! Stop policing the Internet and saving our children from pedophilic horror and stop this kid who says he's lost his e-gun!!"

  • It's fraud. There's no lower limit for "gain" defined in most legal systems because the willful deception itself is the crime.

According to the legal definition of fraud, it is "generally defined in the law as an intentional misrepresentation of material existing fact made by one person to another with knowledge of its falsity and for the purpose of inducing the other person to act." A material fact is "a fact that would be to a reasonable person germane to the decision to be made as distinguished from an insignificant, trivial or unimportant detail." Therefore, it is unlikely that this can go to court because 1.) an ingame item is a very trivial detail, and 2.) it is at no one's loss as it is not money or something related. Also, there is no real way to prove that he/she is lying. There could have been an error in the server upon receiving the item, which means that it would not be recorded in a log. So, this is not fraud (or at least not the legal definition of fraud).

  • The salient point is that the OP is in the wrong, morally and legally. Fraudulent behaviour is not subject to lower limits, I'm not arguing with anyone that it's trivial but the legal system doesn't work the way you think here. Fraud is a 'second tier' crime, one below -blam!-/murder. The fact is the OP can be easily shown to be lying by Bungie and it's open and shut as they have posted here something they know to be false with intent to deceive. That in itself is the crime, don't get caught up in the perceived value of the "reward" for the criminal behaviour. "Only" stealing a chocolate bar from a shop is still stealing, albeit in that case the police have some wiggle room as theft is defined as a lesser crime and the seriousness of the reward can be taken into account. At the end of the day the OP and any other idiots who think they are being clever by posting things like this are doing so against the EULA of Destiny and PSN, against common morality and against the law of (most) lands. Don't do it.

  • I hope the police have something better to do than worry about a kid lying about his e-gun.

  • The police don't get to choose what is reported to them. The police and the legal system cannot take fraud lightly however low gain and frivolous it appears. If this was reported it would likely go to court and the OP would have no legal defence at all. Granted it's extremely unlikely Bungie would take this stance however the OP has opened up the possibility for him/herself...and it's so stupid. The other two possibilities are also unlikely but again, Bungie are well within their rights to do those too. Bottom line... Don't be a d1ck, and don't defend/excuse people being d1cks either.
