A plea to Bungie (optional matchmaking)

DISCLAIMER: This is a personal feedback post to Bungie. By all means feel free to comment, like, or disagree but in the name of honour among guardians, please keep it civil, respectful, and courteous. Dear Bungie, I’m feeling a little left out in the cold here. I’ve been playing Destiny since launch and have 3 characters all at lvl 31. My progress has been entirely through PVE play and almost exclusively solo. I don’t play PVP simply because it’s never really been my thing. Also, since I’m a new dad, I don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands so my preferred “play style” is solo. I still enjoy doing public events with other guardians out in the wild and the occasional strike and, who knows, I might even try a raid sometime in the future (time, LFG and PS4 friends list permitting). In fact, I would love to try the raids in the future with some friends. The thing is, when I do have an hour or two to spare, I usually don’t feel like strapping on a mic and negotiating with other random gamers. To each their own, of course, and call me old fashioned but since I’ve been playing games since the 70s, I tend to prefer single player experiences or multiplayer games that at least permit me to go my own way with the choice of grouping up or not. And since launch I have been able to play Destiny that way. With the latest patch and introduction of heroic strike matchmaking you have taken away the ability to solo them. (Edit: Not to mention the fact that they're the only way to get strange coins consistently.). Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s wonderful you are finally adding matchmaking, a feature that has been requested since the get go (and let’s be honest, probably should have been in place since then as well). What I don’t understand is why you would make such a fundamental change that subtracts gameplay options, specifically gameplay that has been in your game for months now. This change worries me, Bungie. It has me worried about the direction you plan on going with this franchise in the future. I may be in the minority but I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It feels like you don’t want me playing your game anymore. It feels like you’re pushing me away. It’s put me in a very conflicted state of mind when it comes to whether or not I should continue to support you as a gamer and consumer. So, with all that in mind, I have an honest question (or questions) for you all: Is this just an oversight? Can I expect you to add optional matchmaking in the future? The strikes still say they are available to play as 1 to 3 players - is this just a typo? Is your intent really to restrict the options available to gamers, the supporters of your game? Am I playing your game wrong in your eyes? Are you actually trying to get rid of us “dirty soloists” who may or may not contribute to the greater multiplayer experience in the future? Should I continue to support you and your game or should I take the hint and go elsewhere? Please, please, please, all I ask is that you give us the option. I just don’t understand the thinking here. From a business point of view I would think it makes more sense to invite as many people to play your game as possible. This feels like you’re just shutting doors. Perhaps that is your intent and, if so, well done! You’ve forced my hand and I’ll be on my way. If it isn’t though, please take a moment to consider to this and how not to alienate your players in the future or make changes to the game that, quite literally, subtract from the options available. It certainly feels at present like you don’t want me or my money going forward which is unfortunate since, despite its flaws, I love playing Destiny. I wouldn’t have put 300+ hours into it if I didn’t and there really aren’t any other games out there quite like it. I would also like to continue playing Destiny but, as I said, I’m feeling a little left out in the cold here, unwanted, dissed, and frankly, disappointed. Sincerely, a lone guardian *2 edits for concise wording. ;)
