The truth behind the "2.5%" nerf.

So, Bungie once again misled us. As you can see from the video, hardlight took over a 6% nerf in PvE and depending on your muzzle up to a 9% effective nerf in PvP. Suros regime is looking at almost a 14% effective nerf across the board. That's a hell of a lot more than 2.5%. The only rationalization I can see for this was that all your defenders would say both before and after that it was only 2.5%. Before I couldn't really argue. Now though, that number is just a flat out lie. If you wanted to effectively flip pulse rifle and auto rifle damage, well you had the right to do so and you did. But could you at least be adult enough to be honest about the real numbers? Edit: Abyss Defiant was doing 348 headshots to tier one enemies, and now it's 326 which is a 6.3% decrease. Anyone have numbers for Necrochasm? I'm getting different reports that seem to show that the low impact weapons got slapped with a 7% nerf. Any actual numbers appreciated since we know Bungie won't bother. Edit 2: For the sake of laziness, this is my thread for today's open house thing in 15 minutes. This is a spreadsheet of damage in PvP pre and post patch. Be warned that it's PvP so rounding errors can make nerfs seem bigger or smaller than they are. Nevertheless the average isn't 2.5%. Sounds like they put that decrease way before the damage calculators rather than after all the other math. Now you get a 10% decrease.

    • The truth is that ARs were already weak in PvE and certainly note OP in PvP like shottys and FRs. The patch was probably the worst move in this game since release. The handcannon and AR nerfs are simply uncalled for and terrible in all aspects

      • Its an average number. Some got affected more than others. Many other, like Hardlight, actually received a slight buff.

                • A lot of this still comes down to nerfing weapons across the board rather than separating pve from pvp. The pulse rifle needed a buff in general, of that i agree, but the general nerfing of everything else especially if the 2.5% is only averaged is wrong. The pulse rifle should have been buffed so that it is a viable alternative for gameplay, instead they have lowered the bar for everything else and raised it for that weapon class. PvE and PvP are separate gamemodes bungie, so treat them as such.

                  • I personally am furiated with the nerf of the vex and now the bad juju is way stronger why because people couldnt aquire the vex so the nerf it that was b.s. then and the bad juju being stronger is b.s. now

                  • They stated in the original post about this that the %2.5 was an average. The high impact lower rate of fire auto rifles (the good ones) received a higher nerf. The high rate of fire low impact guns get less. Seeing the actual numbers makes this even worse. They've nerfed auto rifles several times already. They back door nerfed it when crota dropped by giving us zero high impact low rate of fire guns from the vanguard. They're clearly out to get the likes of Shadow Price and Suros, sucks hard. Those are, sorry were, awesome PVE guns.

                    • I hope they roll back the auto rifle nerf quite a bit. Suros was frustrating not so much in it's statistical reign over the other weapons, but moreso because of it's popularity. Many players complained once they got suros, that they had effectively "won the game" because suros was basically first and last gun you needed to get. The reason I say that is if there was a gun to be nerfed, Suros would be that gun. it was the only AR that could "snipe, it was the only AR that could outshoot slower RoF, weapons like handcannons and scouts. I don't think I ever ONCE in my life have said, "c'mon man, using shadow price?" Or "Oh great, an entire team using Up for Anything." It was purely the Suros. With that said I was pretty content with the game balance as it was. I average a 1.5 - 2.0 K/D (i'm a pretty reckless player) and came out on top most of the time, and I was enjoying using my Hard Light. But now I am afraid to use it because now that Suros has been toppled, all I'm gonna see is Hawkmoon, Thorn, Red Death, and TLW, which are all equally annoying. I just want to see the UP exotics brought up to par. It think that would make everyone happy. Roll back the 2.5% nerf, keep the pulse rifle buff, and just nerf Suros's range.

                      • Suros dropped from 37crit to 32crit in crucible. Thats way more than 2.5% nerf. More like a 12.5% nerf

                      • Ok forget all the patches updates prelaunch hype an what they tell you they are doing. The simple truth is that everytime Deej and Bungie opens their mouth it's a lie. In Deejs defense he might just be relaying what he is told but Bungie themselves they just lie. They are a greedy lazy company they say what they need to to make us "happy" and that's all they care about. Liars greedy lazy. Plain and simple.

                        • Why is the nerf needed for auto rifles again? oh thats right so whiny little curibabies will be placated. -blam!- PVP. stop ruining my auto rifles Bungie, I have never liked pulse rifles and I never will....I will still use Hard Light (once I get it)(if it ever freaking drops or Xur sells it, but that's a really big if)

                            Good thing I stopped using auto rifles a long time ago... Scout rifles are everyone's safest bet... Not that I [i]wanted[/i] auto rifles to get nerfed... Now no one will use an auto rifle and everything else will get nerfed... Then no one will use ANY weapon...

                            • This certainly does not come as a suprise. I hope they wont pull this sheit on HC's or Scout Rifles just because people start using them more, and i believe that in Bungies eyes: People use a gun more than other guns = must be op nerf plz Also, should the phenomenal use of AR's in the crucible come as a suprise? Most if not all the PVP maps are close/mid range. Every time a big, open map came, i noticed that most of my teammates and opponents started using scout rifles.

                              • I don't think any game company has a clue when it comes to buff or nerf, would be nice if a buff for 1 does not mean a nerf for another. Also the AR is the most widely used gun in any shooter game so if you don't want people to use it take it out but don't nerf it to oblivion.

                                My vanquisher took a big hit too its like it has the impact of a auto rifle with low impact. I'm super pissed about it it took me all this time to get one with field scout and now its garbage

                                • They actually nerfed stuff they didn't touch on in the update, like the 4th horseman.. The gun was pretty bad to begin with, barely warranting it's exotic status, now it's quite literally a joke.. High stability and RoF got nerfed so virtually, any legendary shotgun in the game is now better than it lol. Thanks for the heads-up bungie, but I guess it makes sense you'd nerf a high RoF shotgun while boosting shotgun PvE damage cuz otherwise your stupidity would have broken the game even more.
