The truth behind the "2.5%" nerf.

So, Bungie once again misled us. As you can see from the video, hardlight took over a 6% nerf in PvE and depending on your muzzle up to a 9% effective nerf in PvP. Suros regime is looking at almost a 14% effective nerf across the board. That's a hell of a lot more than 2.5%. The only rationalization I can see for this was that all your defenders would say both before and after that it was only 2.5%. Before I couldn't really argue. Now though, that number is just a flat out lie. If you wanted to effectively flip pulse rifle and auto rifle damage, well you had the right to do so and you did. But could you at least be adult enough to be honest about the real numbers? Edit: Abyss Defiant was doing 348 headshots to tier one enemies, and now it's 326 which is a 6.3% decrease. Anyone have numbers for Necrochasm? I'm getting different reports that seem to show that the low impact weapons got slapped with a 7% nerf. Any actual numbers appreciated since we know Bungie won't bother. Edit 2: For the sake of laziness, this is my thread for today's open house thing in 15 minutes. Edit 3: Weapon damage in PvP Thanks to Superbustamove for bringing this to my attention and exxtrooper for actually compiling the data. This is a spreadsheet of damage in PvP pre and post patch. Be warned that it's PvP so rounding errors can make nerfs seem bigger or smaller than they are. Nevertheless the average isn't 2.5%. Edit 4: Superbustamove also provided the original reddit post he found the spreadsheet at. Again this is mostly a PvP thread, but the info is still way more complete than anything we have had before. • They actually nerfed stuff they didn't touch on in the update, like the 4th horseman.. The gun was pretty bad to begin with, barely warranting it's exotic status, now it's quite literally a joke.. High stability and RoF got nerfed so virtually, any legendary shotgun in the game is now better than it lol. Thanks for the heads-up bungie, but I guess it makes sense you'd nerf a high RoF shotgun while boosting shotgun PvE damage cuz otherwise your stupidity would have broken the game even more.

  • Ive been saying this. The effective dps of ARs went well beyonD 2.5% There was absolutey no need to touch then in the first place as they were already weak in pvp, people just used them more than others

    • I won't try to argue with your numbers, because I knew this was probably going to happen, but I will say you're completely off-base with your claim that Bungie misled us on this issue. It's obvious you didn't read their pronouncement on this matter and if you did, you didn't comprehend it. They clearly stated a "2.5 average", which means some weapons would be effected more than others. I think most people who've been around the game since day one, knew this meant the older, much loved AR's would take a much greater hit than the DLC, pea-shooter AR's, which have absolutely no impact to speak of.

      • Auto rifles need to be buffed slightly to compete with the pulse rifles eg. The red death is insanely good and the obvious choice of the suros regime

        • You're looking at it wrong. Your numbers are based off of range and different impact of each gun. It's still a 2.5 but that is different for each AR.

Someone post below at this youtube about Necrochasm : Necrochasm is now 10 body/12 headshot with cqb ballistics and 11 body/14 headshot with aggressive ballistics. Before it was 11/13 and 12/15 respectively. I tested in the crucible today. Let me know if you want footage I can get that for ya :) So...... this high rate fire got around 10% nerf too......:(? then which Auto is lower then 2.5%??

            • Feels like Abyss Defiant is alot less powerful since the update. I didn't think it could have been a 2.5% difference. Now it makes sense.

                • I know that auto rifle had to be nerfed for people to be not so reliant on it, but when you nerf it to the pint of futility in combat that the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

                  • They said that Auto Rifles would lose 2.5% base damage and a drop in effective range. Bungie designed them to be close to mid range weapons.

                        • 2.5 came from the average. You know all those blue, green, and white auto rifles? Yeah, they barely touched those. So that means they can do 5+ nerfs for everything else.

                          • It's a 2.5% over all auto rifles that means that the average is 2.5 not for each individual weapon, for some it will be closer to 6% for others it will be 0.5%. There was no misleading.

The nerf affected the impact damage of guns. Ones with high impact got the most of the nerf, while low impact guns felt little change. Overall the average nerf comes to around 2.5% across all auto rifle impact types.

                                • hard light was my very first exotic and I got this game day one....after the patch I went straight in to pvp against my friends and noticed a trend I was barely getting rid of their shields by the time they got close enough to use their shot gun or they used their hand cannon to two or three shot kill me.....I am seriously disappointed I literally have no real reason to play this game anymore except to hang with friends that are on it, I have full raid armor, I had my hard light there wasn't much anything else I truly desired story line is a joke, but now I can't even keep up with my friends or other pvp players without switching out my hard light for weapons I've never used since this game came out like the shotgun and bam wouldn't you know it when I switch out my gun I'm back to being good again for some half assed pulse rifle and fourth horsemen...I'm defiantly not getting the sequel to this game let alone some dlc's this game is such a big hustle

I don't know how I feel about this update. Think of the statistics regarding the types of weapons used. How many were mainly exotics that most people mained? With then, legendary mains (ARs for example) now suffering. (These are all PVP numbers) Individual exotics just need their own work. Now we're having RED DEATH doing 38 dmg per bullet; 2 burst kill. Excelling where the Mythoclast failed at which was range. While Bad Juju and other pulse rifles are doing 25-27 precision dmg. ARs at 20 felt just fine. 19 means will need at least 1 random shot. Assuming 200 HP in crucible ARs now need 11 shots to down a person. Thorn is annoying as hell. It's like dealing with a Melee from a sunsinger every time now. I have it, I abused it. Now it's more like, why even try? The only Scout exotic :MIDA. Has third eye perk which can be found on new CE scout rifle. Speed is nice and hairtrigger is useless especially if you use bumper or R1. It should emphasize not only movement speed but increasing weapon handling speed - faster weapon up , faster when ADSing, single point along etc. It's just one of those exotics that just don't feel "exotic" enough. Full Auto in pulse rifles are dumb (IMO). Rewarding precision shots from timing with controlled burst should always win then anticipating those burst in full auto.
