The truth behind the "2.5%" nerf.

So, Bungie once again misled us. As you can see from the video, hardlight took over a 6% nerf in PvE and depending on your muzzle up to a 9% effective nerf in PvP. Suros regime is looking at almost a 14% effective nerf across the board. That's a hell of a lot more than 2.5%. The only rationalization I can see for this was that all your defenders would say both before and after that it was only 2.5%. Before I couldn't really argue. Now though, that number is just a flat out lie. If you wanted to effectively flip pulse rifle and auto rifle damage, well you had the right to do so and you did. But could you at least be adult enough to be honest about the real numbers? Edit: Abyss Defiant was doing 348 headshots to tier one enemies, and now it's 326 which is a 6.3% decrease. Anyone have numbers for Necrochasm? I'm getting different reports that seem to show that the low impact weapons got slapped with a 7% nerf. Any actual numbers appreciated since we know Bungie won't bother. Edit 2: For the sake of laziness, this is my thread for today's open house thing in 15 minutes. Edit 3: Weapon damage in PvP Thanks to Superbustamove for bringing this to my attention and exxtrooper for actually compiling the data. This is a spreadsheet of damage in PvP pre and post patch. Be warned that it's PvP so rounding errors can make nerfs seem bigger or smaller than they are. Nevertheless the average isn't 2.5%. Edit 4: Superbustamove also provided the original reddit post he found the spreadsheet at. Again this is mostly a PvP thread, but the info is still way more complete than anything we have had before. Keep this up. I want the developers to answer this. I want to see what kind of lies they fill us with. Yes I know it was yesterday. Doesn't mean they can't answer

  • The patch reduced BASE DAMAGE by 2.5%. They also REDUCED the EFFECTIVE RANGE of auto rifles so that "damage falloff and accuracy are a stronger factor in combat decisions". This means that once your target is at LEAST a CERTAIN DISTANCE away, your auto rifle damage WILL DROP and CONTINUE to drop the farther they get. "Range reduction is less severe in higher stat values, so now your RANGE stat is more critical to long distance engagements" This prevents high stability exotic auto rifles like hard light and suros from quickly killing players at long distances. Read the patch notes with a little more attention next time before you accuse developers of lying to you.

    • It's a buff to BASE damage, so further modifiers will lead to further effect...

      • Lol seems like they nerfed individual weapons and left the white blue and green autos alone, that could possibly make a 2.5% nerf average in all autos, way to twist that up for us bungie...

Slow firing high impact auto rifles apparently suffered more than the spray & play types... gods damn it... Auto/Assault rifles are my standard primary... for over a decade & countless shooters... F*ck it... I'll get The Horn out!! Edit: It's only just occurred to me and I have wondered this several times... Why TDB didn't have Grim Citizen or Shadow Price class Legendry Auto Rifles... that was the 1st try at influencing players to use Pulse Rifles! Also Edict Oversoul is actually a kick-ass weapon... Red Death is good as well.

      • I'm not 100% sure but it always seemed to me that Destiny has it's measurements for distance wrong. Maybe they don't know what a Meter is? Is there a way to confirm if the measurements is wrong? I think it's one the reason why none of the guns work the way they are supposed to. 400 meters is a quarter mile, and most crucible maps are only a block or two in size. So AR's should be well within their effective rage, so they didn't need nerfing.

        • His nerf was pathetic. Bungie just doesn't like people aren't playing the way they want us to play. Leave us the hell alone! We'll play how we want. We're the consumer. You're supposed to listen to us. Not being your nerf hammer down on every weapon we come across.

          • Maybe they are calculating the 2% differently then the actual damage output of each weapon. That would explain the inconsistent change across all rifles. The only thing I can think would be the impact. I wish here were some number values on all the weapon stats, instead of just comparing them to see differences in red, or green.

            • It was a 2.5% nerf to base damage, not to overall output after calculations. There's a guy higher up in the forums that explains how it works. But basically, the gun takes a small percentage hit, which makes it bigger after calculations of impact/level/attack rating are applied

              • It was a 2.5% BASE damage nerf. This effects slower rate of fire guns much more than your higher RoF AR's that's why the damage reduction differs between AR's.

                • It could be that its a 2.5% nerf on damage and as a result of differing impact levels appear to have more or less of a nerf

                    • Well, it's base damage. Once you calculate in impact and level difference, the weapon damage will have a different percentage.

                        • This is another way for bungie to remove all auto rifles from pvp, nerf them until they weak at the bottom. This is sad. We still don't own this game, even though I paid for it. They're telling how to play and what to use. This is f up. I hope for the worse on this company.

Wow bungie did lied but at least it's not that bad, for me at least. I just use every weapon in my inventory to test out the patch in PvP. I like the new patch. I did good before the patch now I do even better after the patch. I felt the changes and truthfully there good. Now the weapons don't make the player better anymore. The player now has to prove his skills with the weapon he chooses.
