No Land Beyond: Thoughts. Problems.

So... The No Land Beyond. Everyone who's used it, and most who haven't know it has problems. Serious problems that need fixing. Primary weapons are supposed to be able to take car of most enemies with relative speed. They should also be able to handle most of the fighting in a mission. No Land Beyond cannot do this, due to two major flaws: 1. The rate of fire is pathetic. Due to the bolt action, you can only fire a round every second or so, so handling larger groups becomes slow, and laborious, and if you miss a shot, it only takes longer. I play another game called Warframe, and the bolt action rifle in that can be (What's the word?) cocked much faster than No Land Beyond, fast enough to take down larger groups than are encountered in destiny. The cocking speed should be increased (and therefore the ROF), so it can handle any size of group at a rate more in line with other primaries. 2. The ammo capacity is bad (and bugged). When you start a mission, or respawn, you have 18 ammo in reserve. When that's used up you can only get back to 6 in reserve (12 total). How are you supposed to take out groups with this primary, when you only have 12 shots, especially considering it's a sniper rifle, so you'll be staying away from ammo drops until combat is over. Talking about ammo drops, you only get 3 or 4 ammo per drop. Considering how few ammo drops drop, running out of ammo is inevitable. The reserve ammo should be buffed to 24 (for 30 total) and should be regainable. The ammo per drop should be increased to around 6. Finally, another slightly lesser issue is it's scope. The iron sights are bulky, and get in the way of a lot of where you're aiming. This makes target tracking an issue, and makes it harder to actually get headshots off after you've finally cocked the weapon. The sight should be altered to remove this issue (maybe remove the top to be more like a musket?). I also had an idea to alter the first perk (mulligan), and replace it with a new one called rewind. If you miss, there's a high chance that the round will return to the chamber i.e. no cocking required if you miss and this activates. This would also slightly help ammo issues. This concludes my review of the No Land Beyond. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below. I would like to make a request to Bungie that this weapon be buffed (not necessarily how I've described, but solving those problems). EDIT: If you agree with this, just give it an upvote to let bungie know how we feel about this gun.

  • Headshots - stack damage and increase bolt pull speed. 1 headshot 10% damage increase 2 head 20 3 head shot 30% damage increase ect ect All the while head shots increase bolt pull speed. Makes it fun and fair. Pvp that would work. Landing 4 headshots grants a 5th bullet instant kill anywhere?! If you keep stacking head shots you get rewarded!!

  • Honestly, don't worry about it they put a bolt action primary sniper in a game where other guns can regen health and ammo without even doing much work there is really no solving that

  • Warframe isn't that great. It's fun, but not really worth buying content for.

  • In my opinion there is no need to have a clip make every shot act as a reload so that any skills you have that increases the reload would actually be more useful on that weapon. Also give it the ability to be switched into the secondary slot as well as the primary, same should be done with the universal remote.

The NLB also has these issues: -If you so much as tiptoe, the sight sways like wind chimes on a windy day, so you'd better get used to standing still -The bolting of each round takes close to 3 seconds, so either you hit the mark, or your screwed -The second skill tree skills are PATHETIC, the one skill that'd make it exotic(ish) would be to add armor piercing -The exotic upgrade is awful, extra headshot damage and extra damage VERY BRIEFLY after a kill? Pfft, we can get a similar roll on green-purple rarity guns, it's called "Crowd Control" and it works far better. Sad that at nearly every corner Bungie shows laziness and incompetency to just make some really easy and fun exotics. Instead, we get half a**ed or just plain awful exotic guns. The only three exotic guns that are of REALLY GOOD use are Ice Breaker, Red Death and above all *drum roll*... *symbol clang* the Gjallarhorn! And if Bungie so much as thinks about nerfing the Gjallarhorn, a lot of the community will leave Destiny for sure.

  • This thing stinks and I'm sure the Dev team is well aware, though I do wish that they would let us know that they share the community's concern. I refuse to purchase this thing because I'm afraid its going to drop for me via strike. I shouldn't be afraid of an exotic. Either way - maybe they could embrace some of the enhancements you have above with some other perk that makes this truly unique. For instance, maybe make it one of the only exotics that lets you equip a second exotic weapon... or get really weird with it and give it a M26 type of shotgun mechanic to compliment it giving it short and long range effectiveness. There are so many ways to make this thing viable / interesting. I hope something is done soon...

  • I agree that No Land Beyond fails if primary weapons were intended to be suitable to most situations. The rate of fire makes it unusable up close, and the ammo limit makes it unusable from far away. The only way around it is close range special and heavy weapons, but they also lack the ammo availability for prolonged fights. Ammo synthesis and switching weapons is far too tedious to be anything but a last resort. It's accurate and hits hard, but ultimately there's no reason to use it over another weapon.

    • Only problen I have with it is ammo. Other then that it is a fun weapon to use and I would use it more but constantly running out of ammo for a primary is not good.
1. The rate of fire is pathetic. The cocking speed should be increased (and therefore the ROF), so it can handle any size of group at a rate more in line with other primaries.
It is a precision weapon like a bolt action rifle in BF, and as a BF player I am used to the functions. You are not taking on large groups of mob in close or medium range. Rather hanging back and sniping targets from a distance. Anything close to medium use a shotgun or fusion.
2. The ammo capacity is bad (and bugged). When you start a mission, or respawn, you have 18 ammo in reserve. When that's used up you can only get back to 6 in reserve (12 total).
This I will agree with you on that the ammo count is ridiculously too low. At times complicated by primary ammo not dropping with kills.
I have had no problem using the iron sights in the game. It is eye hand coordination. Lack of a cross hair of any kind doesn't help, but the the ability to visualize where the barrel is pointing and move the rifle accordingly. This way it is aim and fire. Not really quick scoping, but pre placement of the sight close to the target as soon as you ADS.

    • NLB was obviously a Bungie experiment gone wrong... One of the perks is that it can be equipped in the primary slot, so that leaves your special weapons slot for fusion/sniper/shotgun... I can see that in PVP a sniper/shotgun combo makes sense, but there is an Exotic shotgun that equips as a primary (Universal Remote I think) which is a really good shotgun, which leaves you a choice of snipers which are all far better than NLB. Same goes for sniper/fusion combo as Vex/sniper. So that leaves sniper/sniper, but the NLB imo is the worst of all the available snipers... Vex and Universal remote are excellent Exotic special weapons that can be used in the primary slot, NLB just is not in the same league and needs serious overhaul... back to the drawing board imo.

    • Agree. They should have made the gun tough to use at first, but as you upgrade it the gun becomes exciting to use with a challenge.
