Does K/D truly make a better player?

I see a lot of these "my K/D is better" post in threads especially when it's a troll war. I noticed a lot of these high K/D players are campers who tend to play only control. Now I have no problem with protecting a point but I am noticing a pattern. My play style is passive/aggressive and that is reflected in my offensive and defensive stats which are about even. I simply go to were the fighting is. My k/d is not great but I'm sick of campers claiming their greatness. If your defensive kills are double your offensive kills that's fine but anyone can sit back and wait while the skilled do the hard work. Edit: Over 100 replies and only one troll post. Wow. I'm glad to see such positive ways of thinking. Thank you. I live by the code: "Fight hard, fight fair, die in glory." Edit: 200 and going strong. Nice! Edit: 300 with almost no trolls. I am impressed with all the great feed back. Some of you have agreed or disagreed with me but I appreciate all the respect shown. Edit: Over 400 replies. I like to thank all of the guardians who have taken the time to respond. Over 400 replies with only 3 trolls I think that maybe a record. :) Edit: Over 500 replies. Holy posting guardians Batman! What impresses me the most is the well thought out debts I'm seeing. Edit: Over 600 replies. Thanks you guardians you guys are great. Edit: Over 700 replies. Roadhouse! Edit: Over 800 replies. I think I'm going to have a heart attack. "Guardians down" :) Edit: Over 900 post!!! I really don't what to say but I am humbled by it. Thank you Edit: 1000 post!!! Ain't nothing but a G thing. Edit: 1100 post. Your input has been great. Edit: 1200 replies. Sweet! Dude! Sweet! Dude! Sweet!

  • No. Obj players sacrifice their k/d to capture objectives/ plant bombs to win games. W/l ratio is what matters.

      • K/D is the most important stat. As long as you are above a 1 or a 1 you're helping your team.

        • I think it maters. Having a high KD doesn't mean that you camp. Mine is lower in Control because I don't camp.

It's about playing the players the map vantage points there's a time to hold a position there's a time to run and gun I for one can't stay in one spot I get to anxious and have to move its sad though seeing players with a decent KD do nothing but blink shotgun or straight fusion rifle the entire time.. I don't hold them to a standard of a skilled player they are garbage and if that's what they need to do then so be it I laugh and move on I know I'm not that bad that I need to do that and smile when I get the best around or on the bright side medal despite their noob tactics..

            • No, it's not representative. I got out of the army last October, and while I was clearing, I let a lot of my friends play my hunter in crucible. They were obviously terrible, and I'm still working to fix my kd. I go 2-3+ each game. But then again I don't really care. Lol

              • I play control just because I have the most fun playing it, but I am a fast paced player in a slow paced game, that's how I've always been. So I get to those flags, defend it with my life, and move to the next one, or wherever the big battle is. My k/d isn't the best, but 95% of the time I finish 1or2 on my team. And yes, I do snipe, it's fun smashing headshots:)

                • It means you understand how to win. If winning is the goal, then yes, high K/D is pretty much everything as there is basically nothing but Slayer. This is coming from someone who hates the crucible.

                  • The top players in this game are the biggest campers. Ldr/hawkmoon or thorn/efrideets spear while they sit back at a stairwell by C. It's sad and pathetic lol. You really did well aiming down the sight and looking at a corner the whole match! . This isn't cod, I enjoy it the most when im killing sniper camper kids with my hawkmoon across the map. This is why control is bad. Clash for life!

                    • I think the best indicator is to go to destinytracker and sort everything by rank..see what percentile you rank compared to others..and what they are in... For instance my highest scoring stuff is overall score, precision kills, k+a/d ratio, kill distance etc.

i never try to have a good KD , i seek the most dangerous situations for a thrill , lone wolfing the game etc. ... i dont need a good KDR but i want adrenaline and fun :) camping with 3 teammates will not only get my kills stolen but is also boring as hell

                            • It's definitely a major factor along with what weapons you use, ratio of primary to special weapon kills, combat rating, objective medal count, average score per game, average kills per game, and win percentages in various playlists.

                                • Well it certainly can't hurt. What really separates the good from the bad, especially in a game like this that has such a small skill gap, is good decision making and map movement.

I enjoy the super easy group kill with any super as well. I know, noob has to play control to do, what ever lol

                                    • Nope, my kd is highest in rumble I think or maybe clash. The most important part is doing the little things that don't show.

                                      • It depends. If someone goes 30-5 but never once helps his team capture B, would that person still be considered a good player? I would say no. But if same player could break even k/d but relentlessly go after captures the entire game and they would be the reason their team won, is that a good player? I would rather have that guy on my team every time rather than the one who sits in the back and only goes after kills. If your in TDM though, that argument goes out the window. Only K/D matters at that point. There are just too many variables for me to put K/D as a great way to tell if someone actually has skill. Hell, they could go 5-1 and completely play it safe every game but we all know that player wouldn't be good despite a 5:1 ratio.

There is no time where KDR is not important. If you kill more than you die, regardless of what mode you are playing or what game, you will most likely win if your teammates do the same. Reason being, you can't complete objectives if you are dead. KDR is a huge stat. Yes, you can manipulate it, just like any other stat, but staying away from action and going 3 kills and 1 death a game, but just because some people do this, doesn't invalidate the stat's worth. The top players can complete objectives and still maintain a high KDR. You will not find a top player with a KDR under 1. Let's be real. It matters.

                                          • Kdr is somewhat irrelevant, imo. At least, in Destiny. The server lag is horrendous and inconsistent. Within an hour, I can go from 14-0, to .13 kdr. All things being even, I usually maintain a kdr of .85+, typically because I like to capture points, like in Control, or CoD Headquarters. Bungie has really failed in the PvP side.

People play aggressive, and some play dropped - both are necessary and have counters. (Except blink shotgun) If destiny PvP was balanced and competitive, everyone would have much lower kd's because the games are tighter. When my mates play decent teams I'm happy if we get positive kd's.

Anything 1.5 ish and above means you are pretty solid. There is a reason that these players kill more often than they are killed.

But K/D does not and will not ever truly reflect a persons skill at the game. There will always be people that use cheats to up their stats when in reality the can be bad at the game. I like to think im decent at the game, that I can get done what needs to be done. The last time o checked my K/D was really to see how many total times I've died in the raid. Thats it. Your K/D should be there to help you see how your doing, not to flaunt it to other being thinking your good at a game.
