I see a lot of these "my K/D is better" post in threads especially when it's a troll war. I noticed a lot of these high K/D players are campers who tend to play only control. Now I have no problem with protecting a point but I am noticing a pattern. My play style is passive/aggressive and that is reflected in my offensive and defensive stats which are about even. I simply go to were the fighting is. My k/d is not great but I'm sick of campers claiming their greatness. If your defensive kills are double your offensive kills that's fine but anyone can sit back and wait while the skilled do the hard work.
Edit: Over 100 replies and only one troll post. Wow. I'm glad to see such positive ways of thinking. Thank you. I live by the code: "Fight hard, fight fair, die in glory."
Edit: 200 and going strong. Nice!
Edit: 300 with almost no trolls. I am impressed with all the great feed back. Some of you have agreed or disagreed with me but I appreciate all the respect shown.
Edit: Over 400 replies. I like to thank all of the guardians who have taken the time to respond. Over 400 replies with only 3 trolls I think that maybe a record. :)
Edit: Over 500 replies. Holy posting guardians Batman! What impresses me the most is the well thought out debts I'm seeing.
Edit: Over 600 replies. Thanks you guardians you guys are great.
Edit: Over 700 replies. Roadhouse!
Edit: Over 800 replies. I think I'm going to have a heart attack. "Guardians down" :)

If this was just cod or battlefield then yes k/d would be a factor. Since this discussion is about destiny, k/d does not play a big role in measuring the worth of the individual player. With the co-op value of pve for campaign, strikes, raids, and bounties, I feel a better player is measured by the amount of Time spent helping others.
-
Kd is a ratio that represents how many kills you can get per life, having a good kd mean you are better

This is a fairly old thread so I don't know if anyone has said what I'm about to say. No. Does your KD help your team win in Crucible? No. What does? Your points. Control for example, score points from captures, kills, assists, etc. Does not dying help your team? Yes. In the end, it's the points you rack in for your team that benefits the most. Those moments are the key to success.

If u can camp that doesn't make u a great player bcuz when in control of u die getting people off flag and playing for ur team that's a great player

Edited by Oh look a free name change: 2/27/2015 3:43:11 AMThis is still going on? Lol
-
Kd against random nubs means nothing, its all about how you perform against other good people.
-
Not really, I mean I've seen people get 40-50 kills with a 1.40 k/d which is above average. So no it doesn't matter. There are people who carry teams with low KD and still kick the other teams ass
-
Edited by BalanceAngel_9: 2/27/2015 3:23:56 AMYes and no. KD does determine how good a player is but some player like me hide there true skills/KD. My KD on this account is 0.90 but that because I play around on this account by switching weapon each round. On my COD and Destiny clan account i'm a full try hard with KD is 2.19. These are from control sense that my favorite game mode. I'm Defender Titan with a scout, shotgun, and machine gun. Main focus is intellect and discipline. Play style is triple caping as well use range as my advantage.
-
Crucible K/d shows true skill wether you camp or not, as far as pve goes everyone should be a beast....
-
meh i wouldnt judge someone off of there kd because.. of bounties. some people do bounties to boost weapon xp and rep gain with factions. alot of these bounties make me play out of my norm and it negatively affects my kd. kd is very important none the less. control seems to be more about kills than points captured.
-
Well Id much rather have a 2.0 kd player on my team than a .5 kd...
-
Do we really need an update every 100 posts dude? Kd is not the end all be all stat, it's just the easiest go-to stat to get a pretty decent gauge on your skill.
-
Only matters if it's not positive, as that means you gave the enemy more points than taking them
-
I play mostly control. I have a lot more defensive than offensive kills. I:ve also started doing suicide runs to steal heavy ammo. This morning my team won 14 out of 17 matches. I just want to win.
-
The only k/d that matters to me is raid k/d. If you die alot, might be an issue. I understand the whole accidents happen but damn.
-
I would say k/d matters a good bit, since kills contribute to your team's score in every game mode. Granted, a dude that snipes from the back of the map and goes 5-2 isn't racking up points, but he's also not giving the other team many, either, and if he's keeping them off a zone, he has value.
-
K/d doesn't really mean much in this game in PvP because it's imbalanced and in PvE you can kill your team with sparrows and solar wind lol
-
I'll be honest, I am the worst sometimes when it come to PVP. However, that's subject to change because my skill in PVP ultimately depends on my mood or the amount of patience I have XD But anyway, I don't think it matters at all. We all have good and bad days in PVP
-
Lol no
-
Not so much in PvE, in PvP definitely.

Is there a way i can see my overall average k\d on here?
-
Edited by iMakeitRain0nEm: 2/26/2015 10:22:00 PMMeh it does, most players run a 1.2 or so. You can tell the bad players are below one and the elite tier players are 2+ The ones who carry their teams in almost every situation pvp pve raids nfs you name it
-
I agree although I have watched many great streamers with a 2+ kd that definitely do not camp (i.e., krafty and triple). I think playing with randoms and not a full fireteam can hurt your kd. What weapons you use matters. Connection also plays a role so I don't think kd is the sole indicator of skill.
-
K/D matters, but to an extent. Just stay positive
