CATERPILLAR FIXED! (hawk and cattle)

KEEP THIS AT THE TOP FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT TO SEE IT! BUMP! A little back story here for my fellow guardians... I moved into a new house on January 1st. Got a new internet plan, a better internet plan with a new company (Shaw canada). The gave me this fancy new modem, bright lights, blinky, dual band AC 5Ghz blah blah blah. Internet is FAST AS -blam!-! which is sick. But..... Here comes the pain. I think to myself, "destiny will be sick, no more shitty codes" logged in, started a brand new warlock, go through the first mission, get to level 2, I'm amped! Then out of nowhere *black screen* CATERPILLAR pops up, some bullshit about losing connection to partner servers. I check my Xbox live connection; my NAT is "moderate". Okay, easy fix. Hit the router settings in my web browser. UPNP was off! problem solved right? Wrong! Check some other stuff, must be DMZ. set Xbox and DMZ host. Done. Open NAT. Get back on destiny. Play for about 5 minutes of patrol. Caterpillar again! What the EF? This can't be, so I go into my browser again, I forward some ports. I get back on destiny. Hit patrol to do some farming and bounties. *black screen* loe and behold! The furry, smelly, black and yellow slow moving tree climbing worm butterfly morphing -blam!- CATERPILLAR. Shows up again. God damn, what's going on? Call my ISP, everything is good, they say. Call Xbox, everything is good they say. I change my IP, DNS, DMZ, port ranges, triggers, disable firewall. I tried everything. This kept going on, BUT! I could raid, and I could also do strikes. I only got the code when I was solo. I do some research, some experimentation. Looked up some technical, specs on my modem. Then I remembered that I never had this issue at my old house, with my old Internet, with my old modem, and my (current) router. Not the biggest tech guy, but I know enough, I ponder "what's the difference between then and now?" Then it hit me! BRIDGED modem! My new modem is not bridged! Easy fix right? Obviously! Call up my ISP and say "oi -blam!-, switch my modem to bridge mode aye?" And what do I hear come out of that women's mouth? "We can't". And why not I say? It simple, just switch it to bridge mode I say. She says to me "the modem you have it not bridgeable" (this is a Motorola sbg6782AC modem btw. Made by "arris") so then I say, how Do I go about getting a bridgeable modem, ma'am? She tells me I have to pick one up. So I do such a thing, bring it home, call tech a get it set up so that I have one port providing an IP for my Xbox (wired connection is the only way to EVER play) and one port providing IP for my router to run my wireless for the rest of my house. Lin story short. YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR MODEM BRIDGED! I have not had a single code for 2 weeks straight! Not ONE! That ladies and gents, is how you fix your caterpillar code. Because bungie won't. Getting a bridgeable modem, if you don't have one, won't cost any more money, your ISP can even bring one to you, and set it up. TL;DR: GET A BRIDGEABLE MODEM OR ASK YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER TO SWITCH YOUR EXISTING MODEM INTO BRIDGE MODE AND RUN A ROUTER FOR YOUR WIRELESS. All the arguments about money, I understand, obviously no one wants to spend more money to play a game that shouldn't have these issues in the first place, but you will most likely have to in order to play. That is if you don't have a router, and decent routers can be fairly inexpensive, the one I have was $40, it's linksys, by Cisco and its a wireless N router. Good enough for anything you'll need depending how many wireless devices you use at once. This is how I fixed the issue and I had to share because I was extremely frustrated by it for two weeks!
