Egh... Hell no... And it could never work... And f@(# off that's what reddit is for. These are the things I hear when someone... Anyone! suggests a matchmaking system for anything resembling that four letter word... Raid. (Wait wait wait! before you dismiss this, how would you like to do a raid more than once a week? Interested now?) And the reasons are valid. How can someone communicate effectively if they're not in a party? The influx of people that have no idea what to do during a raid would kill this game. Etc etc etc... These are valid and quite frankly intelligent responses. But if destiny were to accomplish a method of matchmaking for the PvE environment, How could it be accomplished? For the sake of argument consider the following: What if destiny added a matchmaking system to the three factions? It could start off as something that you'd have to level up. (Proving you could handle playing as a team member). First with story missions, then daily missions, strikes, weekly, nightfall and then eventually... the raids (normal mode first then hard of course). The benefit of putting yourself through all this three times? This give you a chance to complete the raid an additional time per faction. (Chests wouldn't work but boss drops would). This gives you four total chances with the raid! Departing a faction mission for any reason would cause you to loose standing with that faction and mean you wouldn't be able to do the next level harder mission until you've regained that standing. (Ensuring people don't try to cheese a certain raid or depart when the going gets tough). To counteract trolls and noncooperative players, two fire team leaders would be selected based off grimoire score at they start of the match. Should either player feel that a person should be booted a message would appear on the second team-leader's screen asking if that noncooperative player should be removed from the mission. If they agree, then the noncooperative player is booted. Should that occur, then that player will not receive any rewards for that week with that faction beyond what they had already received as well as a faction standing demotion. If it is either of the team leaders it requires the vote of the four remaining team members. During events, factions could offer special bounties for completing iron banner and queens bounty missions as one of their fire-teams. And even more standing if factions compete against each other. As people progress further, the factions could issue certain exotic items for completing hard mode raids with them a certain number of times. Of course, parties could join as a group but steps would have to be taken to ensure that match made players could communicate with them. For instance, if the system does not detect a mic, it prevents you from joining matchmaker PvE and party chat would have to be disabled before the game would allow you to join. Should someone drop from the matchmaking the game would find a replacement similar to strike playlist. Finally, if all players agree to end the raid (by bringing up their ghost and and pressing the admit defeat button) then the raid will end with no penalties applied. Because sometimes you just get that team that can't do it no mater how hard you try. Thoughts? Remember this is a thought experiment so come up with ways to improve it and make it work rather that dismiss it all together. Edit. Though it's extremely cliche to to ask this, please bump this so that it doesn't get buried. I'd really like to hear as many people's opinions on this as possible. Edit number two: True, the above solution would be a short term gain at the expense of the long run. But it would take so long to get to that point (at least four weeks each as you would have to complete a faction mission multiple times before being able to move to the next one) that by the time someone had gotten all three factions there would be a new raid, and thus additional gear to level up. After that, it would take additional standing to get access to the new raid. (Namely, a build up of each of the new missions) See, I think it it would encourage players to play density more often. As it is now, people only play the raid three time a week (if they have three characters). But if people could do it multiple times a week there would be more interest in the game. Additionally it my encourage players that only have one character (like myself) to play more often. Also, once your standing has reached the "level cap", you'd have the opportunity receive one piece of a faction specific raid armor upon completion of the raid. Lord knows, I wouldn't mind a max level piece of armor tailored towards say... the crucible? This would finally give people options for their "Max level" armor that is tailored toward their play style rather then the raid itself because each faction would offer a different set of capabilities.

  • No ... The solution is simple. You build a fire team say you only have four you go to raid ... Press x to start square to restart ... You're then asked ... You're fire team is not full x to continue square to allow match making Job done everyone happy Stop making things so -blam!-ing complicated

    • The ideas are good. And you have sound reasoning but the major flaw in all of this is that people would have four chances to do the Raid. That's three more times than Bungie would like because once players start gaining all their loot and gear that quickly, they'll stop playing the game because there's nothing left to strive for. Again good ideas and presented in a great manner, but not logical for player retention. Your Raid Matchmaking idea, sans 4 possible Raid runs, are what make this post shine though. If those were the stipulations for someone to be "eligible" to join matchmaking I'd be ok with it.

      • One additional note, there should be a level cap with each of the factions regarding standing (but not reputation). That way, you can't do so many raids that you just don't care about the consequences. Probably two raids above the hard mode.
