The definition of a Raid in gaming is a team event where the team is larger than the normal team size, working together to beat a boss. So if people can solo this Raid then isn't it really just like any other Strike or mission? Personally I don't think the Raids should be something people can solo... and I REALLY think Bungie needs to get off their asses and fix the glitches and start testing their game better in the first place!

The difficulty of RAID in classic MMORPG can be manipulated by level. Ways to beat it requires right amount of timing, buffs/debuffs, and not messing up the order for a set amount of time. Understanding when the boss will use certain special and when to time these specials determines the outcome. In destiny, we have a shooter mechanic where moving around and inexplicitly hiding behind rocks flying into safe zones is the norm. It isn't about sustained DPS but more about survival by hiding. Given the system design, it forces players to find cracks, rocks and whatever platform to survive the bullets, hence all these glitches being discovered. Bungie tried to make it a team effort: sword carrier, boomer duty and DPS Crota shield duty. They even added ogres as a special. The problem is: THIS IS A FPS. Once you do something once, all subsequent tries are infinitely easier. They can copy classic MMOs and come up with a RAID that requires specific classes to use certain abilities during certain part of the raid. Hunter golden gun is the only thing that can kill golden knights? Warlock Nova Bomb can only kill purple guardians? Titan bubble shield giving teammates weapons of light is the only way to DPS the boss? They have arsenal in their jacket pockets but they keep leaving their jackets in the car. Conclusion: Bungie is experienced in FPS not MMORPG...they're trying but lets be honest, just like the raid...first time is the hardest. Maybe Bungie should watch some MMORPG cheese videos. LMAO.

I used to play thi game pretty hardcore. I got sick of the community and the bs designs by bungie. I have 30 people on my firends list and only 2 of them still play. The fact the raid can be solo'd tells me the huge lack of teamwork needed and the fact bungie does not know how to design anything other than pew pew.
-
I'd say yes just because I'm sick of trying to find teams on the forums when they could've easily just implemented matchmaking
-
I just hope hard mode isn't delayed even longer because I don't think they accounted for this many bugs. I doubt we will see it in January. Took over a month just to put bumpers in so people couldn't push atheon, and then another month for the Templar.
-
I didn't vote, but to be fair the ones that solo crota are pretty -blam!-ing good players. It's not like your average Joe does it.
-
While it's true raids are meant to be played with an organized party, the skilled will always find a way. I can't help but admire people that creative.
-
Yes but only the most elite of the elite

You should absolutely be able to try to solo it. It should allow you to start the raid with a 1 man fireteam. But it should be impossible to complete by yourself. There's a million different categories and sub categories of "skill". Raids are supposed to force you into the realm of teamwork and communication. A skill that so many people me included, otherwise neglect. It's about expanding your gameplay into an area that I never previously knew to be enjoyable and fulfilling.
-
The raids are specifically designed to not be able to be soloed. The reason people can is because they are exploiting things to leave the intended gameplay path. The question becomes is this "clever use of game mechanics" or is it cheating?

Edited by Doc SoCal: 12/30/2014 6:06:10 PMShould it be? No, I don't think it should. That being said, that is why matchmaking SHOULD be an OPTION for those without friends playing that are too shut in or terrified of human interaction to use LFG.

Interesting... so far 10 people have voted NO and 6 people have voted Yes...yet none of those 6 people have stated why they think a TEAM event should be available to solo. Seriously... why even call it a Raid then?

Allowing a raid to be solo-able significantly reduces the complexity. If fpsmmo are to compete with games like Rift and WoW for end game complexity then Bungie needs to rethink their raid design. One major issue is that people are beating raids in a single night. Most high end raid mmos have a single boss that could take a month or more and the whole raid taking months to complete. The complexity and both team work and personal responsibility are off the charts. Unfortunately with destiny's business model of new gear grind every three months they have to make the raids simple in terms of mechanics. That is not going to keep the hard/medium core raid group around. When other triple A game franchises move to mmofps (real mmofps) models with a significantly harder challenge in raids people will flock to them. I have said it before that Bungie should hire away Rifts raid team.

If the raid was something I was able to solo by sheer luck and skill, then I would be a little more cool with the idea. The problem is you can solo 2/3 loot checkpoints without much problem due to glitches. I beat crota the first week and it was awesome knowing how hard everyone worked together to get the timing right. Now it's a freaking joke. I'll get my gear to 32, but it definitely put a damper on my enthusiasm for the dark below.
-
Most of the solo videos didn't glitch though. So fixing the glitch still doesn't bring this raid up to your terms of what a raid is.
-
I would love if the next raid had a section that required you to break into 3 teams of 2 to complete. This way it would be impossible to solo or even 2man
-
CE has no team required mechanics. The only thing that it does to try and drive home the fact that more guns is good is large waves of enemies. VoG had the Gatekeeper portals at the very least that required you to break off into smaller fireteams and work together toward beating the raid. Being able to solo CE makes sense. There isn't anything there but the mobs, and as we've seen, the better you are at crowd control the easier it is to do it with less than a full fireteam.
-
I think it dorsnt matter but I think only the very few people who are extremely good should be able to. if half the destiny population can do it i see no reason it should be a raid. if u were to be able to solo it, youd have to be reallllly good, time consuming, and need slight bit of luck as well. at the end of the day, the time spend would be or not be worth it due to RNG. i think it gives the game an interesting challenge and alternative. of course balancing thisbis very difficult tho. at the end of the day, i think group effort is what raid is about.

Edited by PROCK7: 12/30/2014 6:53:37 PMIt's one thing if a high level can solo an old raid like in other mmo. For instance a 90 character can solo the level 60,70 and 80 raids. This is odd for current level to solo.
-
Yes, but I think they need to make it so you can have friendly NPCs to help. It would be much harder (not counting glitches).
-
A solo raid would be cool though, I mean, one intended for one person or 3.
-
Raids honestly feel more extended strikes, least CE does
-
Edited by RebornV3: 12/30/2014 6:34:55 PMYES- because Ive played with so many bad players in the raid and having to put 5 people on my back and drag them through the raid is crap so I would like to be able to solo it since Ive near soloed the raid plenty of times cause my teams were garbage but I need at least 4 people to beat Aethon so it sucks that it forces me to group up.
-
Edited by Psifour: 12/30/2014 6:02:07 PMAll content should be possible to solo, but the difficulty should make it hard/almost impossible to do so (unlike the new raid which is too easy). Forcing a team size using mechanics just makes a raid seem forced.
-
you should have the choice of getting a team together or doing it on you own I always have trouble getting a team together so I often end up not doing the raids because of that
-
Absolutely not. And it makes it that much greater when someone does solo it.
-
There should be puzzle based solo raid type event that you have to figure out on your own.
