Class Item Progression.

Yes, this was something I wanted at launch

Yes, this sounds like a cool idea

No, I cared more about the gameplay than the loot

No, this sounds pointless and a waste of development time

Maybe, depends on if this impacts bug fixes and balance tweaks.

Maybe, depends on how they implement it

I cannot be the only person who assumed our gear would have various levels of cosmetic progression when Bungie first described Destiny's loot. I remember ViDoc's of various members of the development team talking about how our gear, Hunter cloaks specifically, would get longer as we leveled up, would look dirtier and tattered and how our story as a player would be told through our gear. As it stands, Class items mean absolutely nothing and tell absolutely nothing, Raid items notwithstanding. I would like Bungie to return to the idea that your items would tell a story and implement a form of progression to your item. I don't imagine this would be very difficult either, the framework is already there. Such as Raid items only being attained through the Raid, I would like to see an influx of new items that both level up and are exclusive to a certain set of parameters. For example: Take the new EV-30 Tumbler Sparrow. It's a sparrow meant to perform tricks. Have a cloak unlock specifically because you performed a spectacular stunt in your Sparrow and a competing Hunter acknowledges you as the better trickster. In the Grimoire cards, and some cloaks, it's acknowledged that Hunters will often bet their cloaks on games or take up the cloaks of fallen comrades. This is the first step. Obviously in a post-apocalyptic world, there can't be too many ways to keep a cloak clean forever. After so many hours or EXP gains, your cloak applies a new, dirtier, torn texture to help convey the passage of time and amount of use. A neat way of saying "This is my Cloak. There are many like it, but this one is mine." As it stands, and as far as I know, there are less than 5 cloaks that are Dirty, Torn, or both. The only two that I've seen are "Cloak of the Shadowsmith" and "Cloak of the Shadowjack." For Titans, I imagine the items would follow a similar structure as the Hunters Cloak, since the "Mark" or "Sash" is a similar material to Cloaks. For Warlocks however, this is harder to convey. With such an inconspicuous class item, it must stand out even greater than either of the other two items. Taking inspiration from the Raid item, and other Holographic or Projected Bonds, you could make the item grow larger and shine brighter as a visual aesthetic for the Warlock's growing comprehension of the travelers power, and by extension their own. For example: One Bond in particular is engulfed in flames. To signify a Warlock's mastery of power, the flame would grow to engulf a larger portion of their arm and would burn brighter as the item progresses, possibly even changing the color of the flame as time goes on. What do you guys think? Is this something that you would like to see at some point or do you believe this would take too many people off the development team to justify a cosmetic change you have no real interest in? TL;DR Implement cosmetic and progression changes to Class items and give us more of them. Yea or nay?
