• What if the traveler did what it's doing to the humans to the hive, fallen, cabal, and vex, and they're trying to help us/save us before the traveler destroys all of humanity

Hey Killworthy, the ISEEA guy from FB here. I'm starting to write the article we discussed, but I felt as though I might post this portion of it here - to add my voice to the Traveler discussion! The Chosen Ones There is undoubtedly something different about the overall feel of Destiny’s mythic science fiction setting. It is distinct from Halo’s heavily biblical and ‘hard-sci-fi’ feel, and feels much more ethereal - almost like it could have been interpreted from an ancient fairy tale. Throughout the lore of and aesthetic of Destiny, Bungie’s descriptions of events, characters and weapons dance off the page with an almost Tolkienian flavour. There is a weight and gravitas being channeled from the very same perennial, classic story elements as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings once did, with their own unique interpretations and retellings of them. At it’s core, Destiny is the story of a lost child, Humanity, stranded and alone in the Galaxy, and of the mysterious Mother-figure, The Traveler, who came out of no where to tend to us - to save us. It must have heard our cry from on high, seen how astray our species was, fighting amongst ourselves - and yet, at heart, full of potential for light and good. It’s the story of humanity being found, held close and cared for by this benevolent presence, and in the process also finding and learning to care for itself. For a peacefully long-lasting Golden Age, we began realising our potential as a species. We started seeing in ourselves what The Traveler first saw when it chose to bless us with it’s unimaginable gifts. Sadly, It’s also the story of how this child come to discover, to our great tragedy and terrible loss, that our Mother figure was, like humanity, itself astray when it found us - fleeing from an ancient Enemy, who has pursued it for countless aeons - The Darkness. And so, much like the prototypical prologue sequence involving a Mother, suddenly realising an unstoppable aggressor has come for her and her Child, who dies defending us - and with her last words, tells us to be strong, to be brave, and that it’s up to us now, to do what she’s no longer able to. Those ‘last words’ are the Ghosts - sentient pieces of the Traveler created at the moment of it’s sacrifice, who, like the real last words of a beloved departed one, have come to us in our time of need to pick us up, bring us back from our fears, and finally become what the Traveler once believed to be our Destiny - The Light, shining across the Galaxy, ever-burning through The Darkness.

    • Why not both, last I checked being a necromancer isn't automatically a evil thing, heck the original use of the name was for a kind of helpful priest.

      • What if all the enemies used to be the guardian that we are now? But the darkness still prevailed against them. So the Traveler sets out to look for new candidates, which are us. And now the Fallen, hive, cabal, and vex are on the move to have Revenge on their ones used to be protector.

          • Great job keep it up Kil. What about the travelers ghost that broght the guardians back to life when they were basically a pile of bones. Seems like that traveler restorea, but it's guardians destroy. Did the traveler even fight or did it run. How do we know that the sphere is the traveler and not just the home for the traveler. Look forward to finding out tho.

          • So let's say that someday the darkness returns and it's revealed that the traveler intended to use us as pawns in it's fight against the darkness. The traveler did not have our best intrests in mind and simply needed an army to defend it. Given the conversations the community is already having regarding whether or not the traveler can be trusted, I think it's safe to say that a revelation like this would cause a rift amongst the guardians of the last safe city. Is it possible that there would be those among us willing to offer up the traveler to the darkness if it means being free from it's perceived machinations? Would there be guardians that feel as though all that the traveler provides for us is worth being it's instruments of war in a battle that we don't even fully understand? Would there be guardians that are simply content with abandoning free thought and accountability in the service of an all powerful entity much like the religious folk of our history and present? What if Bungie is guiding us to an inevitable civil war? What if someday Bungie wants to completely destroy all we think we know about the traveler and the faith we have put in it? Thus simulating a spiritual crisis in us all? After this hypothetical revelation that the traveler may not be our savior will we be forced to ask tough questions? Is it better to live as menials under the protection of a god who's primary concern is self-preservation, or risk extinction as a species intent on forging it's own Destiny?

            • Well I could see us being just pawns in the long run, and we find out that if the traveler dies our light will be extinguished; then after the defeat over the darkness (forces and what not) he decides to back to normal, conquering the galaxy, then his hopeful known universe, thus giving us a moral dilemma, kill him kill ourselves, or join his crusade.

I believe our "enemies" are just illusions of the traveler. The traveler probably is a planet eater, much like Galactus in the Marvel series. The traveler has leached onto the planet (silently hovering above the earth where it took it's last stand) and is sucking out what ever elements it needs for survival. But above all else, the Traveler is hungry for knowledge. After purposely killing off a majority of human life, it now has revived the best heroes and is sending them to hunt down the most sacred knowledge that the Traveler both created and destroyed. However, this theory doesn't explain why the traveler would destroy us then look for information, especially since it made most of our technological advances. This is why I believe the Traveler is looking for the one thing it has never been able to find, a soul. After amassing unfathomable amounts of intelligence, it still does not know what it means to be free. So it purposely puts humans through these trials as a study of what makes us tick and why we continue to face the darkness against all odds. Building off of this - The traveler made Exo's in a attempt to duplicate the presence of a free and independent living soul. I have no idea what to think of the Awoken though.

i think i have an idea about how the traveler saved humans and brought the darkness so at the start there were two travelers in our solar system and the traveler that hovers over earth lets call it traveler a and the other traveler b. in our solar system the cabal lived on mars the fallen on earth and the moon. traveler a didn't like how traveler b was looking after the enemy races so he left to a near by galaxy. and hundreds of years later came back with a army of humans. they came and the enemy races and attract b.they then all fled the solar system to avoid being wiped out but traveler b built a army under Venus (the vex) and some of the fallen stayed on the moon were they would rot and turn into the hive. traveler a then took his rage on all the last monuments of the enemy races including the humans and then left our solar system to see where b had got to. after a few thousand years the traveler returns to the solar system as he fears b is back on it's way to destroy him. he then lets the humans find him and then he makes them battle ready (the golden age) and the b returns with the enemy races and have a big battle (the collapse) and b is known as the darkness and the the vex come up from under Venus and destroy human land marks. this game has space magic and is si-fi so any big plot errors ether would have of taken more time to write or magic so thanks for reading.

                • Dude you are a champ! I thought that the traveller was honestly something that was created organically because in the Beta it says through the speakers intro that the traveller came from basically out in the middle of the universe to protect "us" from darkness. Being that way I have come to think that the Fallen and the Hive are mutations of some sort of either animal or human figure that were created on the planets and moons in our solar system. Almost like a reincarnation. In the bible it says something about a reincarnation of the dead....... Maybe this is another thing added? The traveller being the one who is trying to stop this mutation from happening further. And perhaps its just gotten out of control. Now, the Ghosts are something that I have tried to figure out. It says that the Traveller has created them in it's "dying breath" but, the way I see it is different. Ghosts talk, and they can see things. That must mean that the Traveller can see things as well. Perhaps instead of the Traveller being "Dead" it is in more of a "Dormant" stage. And the Ghosts are now protecting individual Guardians to wipe out the darkness Where as the Speaker was chosen by the Traveller to watch over the civilians in the last city. Hopefully this gets the mind going again. I really enjoy your videos. Even though you don't push them out every day :P (I doesn't matter :D still have great content) Perhaps you can do a theory on the Ghosts? What are your true thoughts about them? Ach SchieBe out :D

                • my question is did you loose your freewill appon resurrection? I ask this because it seams odd to me that your char does not ask how he came to be resurrected, or what happened after his(or her) death, If i was just resurrected I would ask many questions like how i died, how i was resurrected, why me? ect, but the only question your guardian asks is, how can i serve(as he talks to the speaker) this has me thinking that your resurrection comes with strings attached, as your char is now blindly loyal, the thought of questioning it is not even in his head, and that frightens me...

A lot of people are saying that the traveler may have recruited the fallen and cabal and other races in the past and they then turned on it. What if it's the other way around? What if the darkness is the travels opposite in every way. What if the darkness searches out races and gives them it's "light" (darkness). A lot of times the universe is about balance, and what if that is what the traveler is doing, balancing out the darkness' forces with guardians of it's own! But alas tis just a theory, going to have to wait till 9/9! See you stars is gaurdians!

                • I honesty like your theory's you put a lot of time and effort of thinking about them. Some things fit in to the puzzle and get you asking more questions, then other things don't fit but that's a theory I guess!

                • Well since the opening cinematic shows that the Traveler has now been found on Mars. Which leads me to believe that the humans were an accident. The cinematic shows that the traveler was making it rain on Mars, it wanted to make Mars habitable for life (which means making it more like earth). But the humans traveled to Mars for something, and found the Traveler. The Traveler saw this as an opportunity to just improve upon humans, instead of waiting years to make new life. So it followed us to earth, giving us new technology and reforming other planet's atmospheres. Until the collapse occurred, and the Traveler returned to our home planet to make it's last stand. Later it created the guardians and ghosts because it knew now that it could not wait any longer to create the it's army of light.
