Forbes and their terrible reporting
I can't stand Forbes' article on Destiny, and more specifically the writer of this article (Paul Tassi). This is some of the worst journalism I've seen outside of fox news in a long time.
To start with, he is lacking in knowledge on the entire game. Bungie has stated you'll be able to carry your characters throughout the entire decade long experience, something he is completely unaware of (even though this information is readily available on a number of forums along with legitimate sources).
Next he claims Destiny is an MMO. Regardless of whether you think it is or it isn't, that is an opinion and a point of contention (despite the fact that Bungie has claimed it isn't an MMO). He passes this off as a fact that isn't even remotely debated.
The rest of the article is purely his opinion, which is something absolutely any single one of us can give. They're guys on forums more knowledgeable, well spoken, and who are capable of setting their biases aside, than this dipshit.

Forbes simply do not have to staff with the knowledge and skills as gaming journalists. Seem to me theres a go job opportunity for a gamer with solid research and writing skills to pitch for the role ;)

4 RepliesThe whole article is lackluster, but one thing snagged me. Most people seem to think the story missions we experienced in the beta were the same sequence as the full game. It was merely a taste, as Bungie has demonstrated a lot that the game will have a large number of important NPC's you'll meet during the campaign. Hell, I have a feeling they will be place holder missions that offer a tiny amount of the full campaign mission structure.

Better rally against some minor opinion writer as if they have no right to have any reservations about what little we've seen as not the strongest showing for a $500 million dollar series. Gotta justify my purchase of the most expensive pre-order possible!

1 ReplyI'm glad I'm not the only one that felt this way! Maybe it's because I work in Finance and I am a Gamer. I read Forbes articles quite often and I have cringed more than a few times reading those Forbes/Destiny Articles. Yes, I get Butt-Hurt over this, but to be honest... I get butt-hurt anytime I read an article about Destiny that seems misinformed.

It is a news aggregator and blog site. Despite the font and official-looking headline, this "article" is actually this guy's blog -- and to be clear, anybody can become a Forbes blogger as long as their [url=http://blogs.forbes.com/help/how-do-i-become-a-contributor/]application is accepted[/url]. Forbes bloggers are paid based on [url=http://www.forbes.com/sites/susannahbreslin/2011/04/06/how-to-become-a-forbes-blogger/]how many clicks their articles get[/url], and they [url=http://www.forbes.com/sites/susannahbreslin/2011/04/06/how-to-become-a-forbes-blogger/]work independently with very little oversight or guidance from Forbes itself[/url]. That's why you see lots of clickbaity-type headlines and tons of spelling/grammar errors in these articles. This creates a strong incentive to create inflammatory articles that users pass around forums like these so that everyone clicks on them, and there is no system in place designed to ensure the accuracy or truth of the content. The articles generally reflect some level of expertise in the subject matter, but some bloggers try harder to get traffic than to present well-reasoned opinions. Once again -- I'm not saying that's what this guy is doing at all (in fact, I have not even read the whole article yet), but I think it's important that you not call this "journalism." This is blogging, and some bloggers may be more incentivized to draw traffic to their article than to engage in solid journalism. So take that as you will, but hopefully that provides some perspective here.

7 RepliesI'd say he hit the nail on the head about it being a beautiful but empty world. It's why I felt bored eight hours into the beta just "shooting aliens in the face" as he puts it. And he did not call Destiny an MMO. He said "that Destiny should consider viewing itself fully as an MMO, rather than a shooter series with MMO elements. I think they may be on that path, judging by how hardcore they’re going with raids, but I’m still not sure how things will play out when it comes to sequels." He was talking about what they should do for a focus with the $500m budget that Activision has slated for the game. He doesn't feel all the money was spent already. Move toward an MMO style game instead of beautiful but empty world shooter. And more story and side quests or mini games as evidently the Grimoire cards do little to add in depth to the world of Destiny, mostly they focus on skill trees and weapons. Do something to help liven up the world of Destiny.

Lol you said dipshit! I use that word all the time to describe morons. But yes I agree, Forbes has some of the worst writers making articles for them. As soon as you see anything leading to their site don't even bother clicking on it. Dead serious.

4 RepliesSounds about right to me. No interesting or meaningful characters, little in the way of plot, lore is disassociated from the game and found in Grimoires not in game sources...... While the game is not a pure MMO it does share many aspects with its much larger cousin.... even so given what we were presented with there is no way it will retain its original players base for 10 years unless it really steps up into developing, immersion, player driven content with a continuous and interesting plotline...... or PVP format.

3 RepliesDestiny has MMO elements and as long as that is stated it is fine. The reason Bungie doesn't call Destiny an MMO cause its a blanket term and don't want people to think of the game like you would with more popular MMOs, but put simply yea Destiny has MMO qualities.

Also, most of the article I read was true.....so i don't know why you are getting so angry over an article. Sure he missed the fact that characters transfer over, but big deal. He never said they won't, he was simply speculating on how it might work. Also, this article is not going to change the game or experience you have playing it....so calm down?
