Kind of, read a few batman and superman comics. Just ordered Batman: Court of the Owls which will be my first foray into the New 52 so I'll see how that is tomorrow.

Court of the Owls ties up pretty nicely with Nightwing: Traps and Trapezes.
-
All I know about Nightwing is what I've seen in some animated series. He's a Robin who outgrew Batman, moved to Bludhaven and then became Batman for a while pre-New 52 right? What's the hype about him. How does he stand out.
-
He's a cooler version of Batman. He gets along with every other Superhero. He actually stands out more in the Injustice Comics.
He gets killed in a ridiculous manner though.
The above image is of how Bludhaven got destroyed. Personally, my favorite set of super heroes are the Green Lanterns. They are the dudes that don't take shit from Batman.
-
Wouldn't say he's a cooler Batman based on what I've seen of him (lol'd hard when Batman pimp slapped him in Court of Owls) but I might give it a go when I've got more cash.
-
LOL They actually repeated that scene in Traps and Trapezes. Oh, and buying the comics digitally is usually cheaper. I got Court of Owls for 6dlls in a comixology sale.
-
Holy shit I kid you not I just ordered that too and mine is coming tomorrow.

Just finished it and it was -blam!-ing epic. Ordered the second volume as soon as I read the last page. About to start Action Comics #1 now, hopefully it's of a similar quality. All I've read of Superman before is All-Star, which was amazing and by the same author as this so I have a feeling I'll enjoy it.

Prepare yourself: disappointment awaits. Snyder has great set up, great dialogue, and fun plots, but he flopped when it came to the ending of Night of Owls and Death of the Family (though the latter one may be hype backlash). I recommend Lemire and Sorrentino's Green Arrow, their first volume came out recently. The Kill Machine. Good stuff.
-
Might do, I love Arrow and wouldn't mind checking out his comics. These things are -blam!-ing expensive though. I suppose keeping up with them weekly or whatever is a bit more cost effective than buying volumes in bulk.

Edited by Macharius: 6/27/2014 9:37:08 PMDon't be concerned that Lemire and Sorrentino start at issue 17 / Volume 4. Their first story cleans up everything from the previous creative team, which is nice because it was shit. Their comic also takes a good chunk of inspiration from the show, but it is decidedly a bit more "fantastic." They recently introduced Diggle to the comics, and they spend a lot of time focussing on the island. Buying the trades is a better option if you get them at a discount. On digital platforms many publishers drop their price after a comic has been out for a month or two. Even separately, comics are expensive.

Action Comics volume #1 was the best out of the #3 volume story arc. Court of Owls is wayyyy better though I finished it yesterday and it's one of my favorite New 52 comics. That was freaking insane especially how Bruce got all that shit done in the maze while he was hallucinating and I really liked how as he was hallucinating you had to turn the comic pages sideways and upside down.
-
Yeah loved that, really added to the tone. I used to see comics as something silly, for kids or hardcore geeks. Now I've realised they can be every bit as powerful as a great novel and even more so.
-
Yep, I used to think that too but then a few years ago I watched Batman Begins and thought it was -blam!-ing I eventually watched every single super hero movie then got Green Lantern The Blackest Night as my first comic and I thought holy shit this is cool. The artwork is what really sets it aside from other works of writing.
