It would only work if every eligible member decided to join and stay active, which would never happen. Either way, there's a distinction between those of us who were around before the darkness started and those who joined right at the beginning/partway through. If you decided not to set a join date requirement there's nothing stopping anyone from joining the group, and the 'exclusivity' of the group is all for naught.
