In the Chilam Balam books, the Maya priests believed that one of their gods who came from the stars will return to earth to fight and protect it from other gods from the stars coming to destroy it in an epic battle of good vs evil. I'm sure you can see the parallels here. The scraps we got of the destiny story hints at earthlings defending the city while an alien ship is defending earth against other aliens from the cosmos. And to be clear, I'm in no way implying that Bungie writers stole the Idea. I'm just asking if this specific document was an influence on the new story.
