I need help and quickly. I restarted my computer last week to install updated, but when it was re-booting, it came up with a screen that gave me an option to start windows normally or go into repair mode.
I clicked start windows normally. After a few seconds, the windows logo appeared then after 'loading' for a second or two, a blue screen flashed with something like 0000000x something something something.
Windows failed to start. Then it went back to the repair windows or start normally screen.
I chose to repair. It loads, but the repair window never comes up. It just stays with the window start-up background and my mouse.
Does anyone know what to do? I need help, this is a school computer.

Go into safe mode and remove the update
-
Restore it to a previous setting. The update got corrupted during installation. Also, F8 during boot up gives you more options. You can restore to last good configuration.
-
Step 1: Format hard drive and install OS again. Step 2: There is no step 2.

I know I sound like an idiot noob. But when it comes to this I'm not the best at this AT ALL. How do I go into safe mode? -.-
Posted by: Ghost 4119 I need help, this is a school computer.
Firstly, we can't help unless you know the entire BSOD information, which is the Stop Code, Hex Parameters and any sort of error codes. Seeing as it no longer BSOD's and just can't load past the startup, that seems to be an issue. Your best bet is to see if you can get it to boot into safemode. Can try things like holding down DEL or F4~F8 when it's booting through the BIOS. Also, how is it a school PC? Let them fix it if that's the case.

If this is a school computer, make the school fix it? [Edited on 01.07.2013 6:34 AM PST]

Turn it back on and start pressing F7 like crazy. it will give you an option screen, there just select 'safe mode'

take it to your schools computer technician
-
it costs me $50 to get it fixed, and I cant anyway cause they will only ever fix this kind of problem once, and I already used that up when some -blam!- broke my screen.
-
Depending on the brand of the computer it might take different key combinations to enter BIOS

yeah its a lenovo and I have to press the thinkvantage button to get BIOS settings. But I cant find safemode anywhere.

ITT: people don't understand that when a computer fails to load past a certain point, you can't actually do anything, because it won't actually load anything like a mouse cursor or start menu or the desktop. OP, get it fixed. Ask a hardware specialist to give it a look.

biiiiig problem. Its not starting in safemode or the last knows good configuration. What now?

Select a restore point of a time before you installed the update if you can, then try reinstalling the update. Good luck, OP.

Pull the drive, back up your data, and nuke it.
Posted by: Ghost 4119 biiiiig problem. Its not starting in safemode or the last knows good configuration. What now?

Posted by: Ghost 4119 biiiiig problem. Its not starting in safemode or the last knows good configuration. What now?
Invite a friend with the same school computer over for drinks. Drug him, then covertly switch laptops and send him on his way. It now becomes his problem.

I tried Directory services restore mode and that didnt work either. Same error screen as the rest. What now?

cant, school computer
-
Unless you have the install disc there isn't much you can do. If you can get an OS install disc you can restore the system to before the update. That, or use safe mode to remove it.
-
Call for help. Tell the person who comes to help you why you told us. Why were you updating a school computer? You aren't supposed to do that, for this reason.
-
actually at our school school laptop updates are mandatory.
-
Know your limitations and dont go making things worse. Go confess like you did last time - pay your fee if you have used up all your free service time. The school will reimage it, be quick and cheap. And hopefully you have not been silly enough to save important info onto [only] the system drive. Then ask your school to lock out your admin rights and promote updates through a school hosted server install image, which can then be done in a controlled manner with elevated privileges. School gets a log of OS patches, plus an asset register, plus you cant accidently break stuff.

Download the Windows ISO and put it onto a DVD (the ISO size is 3.9 GB). This is perfectly legal by the way. Go into your BIOS and set your computer to boot from your DVD drive. Insert the DVD after you put Windows 7 on it. Now the installer will appear. Click on something that says "repair your computer" or something like that, and then run the repair tool. Done Same thing happened to me a week ago. Doing the above fixed it.
