• I'd say someone who's had a few bans would be better, maybe not a few bans on the scale you're talking about OP, as that would probably equate to a perma-ban, but it's easier to understand and follow the rules if you've broken them a few times, and been set right.

  • Probably the latter.

  • Someone in tune with the forum rules but also knows how to interact with the community on a face to face level without breaking any rules in the process would be ideal in my own opinion

  • I think some Ninjas have been banned before being bestowed the Banhammer.
Posted by: Dont pass gass The banned user would make the better forum ninja. They have learned from their past mistakes and know the rules better.
This. Ive been banned a few times and that gave me a better understanding of what is and what isn't acceptable.

  • I say the clean is better. He seems unlikely to display hypocrisy or abuse power.

  • Were I the one choosing, I would choose whoever would do the best job, without going power hungry. Ban history would obviously play a factor in determining ones likelihood of straying from the path of ninjahood, but inversely having a ban history would give an individual insight on to what it actually feels like being banned. This could lead to them dishing out banishment more fairly. Ultimately, it just comes down to who the person is. Simplifying it too one factor, such as number of bans, seems counter-productive.

It's a matter of knowledge, deduction, understanding, patience, neutrality, and other principles. There are a lot of ways to be material for the job, and many more disqualifications. It's a hard balance to find, really.

  • 34 times is a lot, person like that would either have no idea what the rules are or just no respect towards the rules. Don't seem like good qualities for a ninja. [Edited on 01.06.2013 9:22 PM PST]

Like other people have said it really depends on the person.. Someone who has been banned could have learned the site and different things and over a long time become a respected member and Bungie would see this.. Or they could never change. Someone who hasn't been banned could also be a well respected member over time and it would take less time for this because of how they act and they could be a generally nice and thoughtful member who knows their stuff. On the other hand they could be a jerk and just be hiding behind a mask.... That is why Bungie is so could at choosing people they now what to look for and have the wisdom for it. Its a pretty tough question though.

  •
Posted by: mvyorkie009 my reason for asking this is; is it better to know correctly right of the bat, or learn thru trail and error? yorkie
That's a tough one. In the second scenario, the correct behavior would be more concrete because of the negative conditioning associated with it.

  • The ones who've never been banned might be too strict
Posted by: mvyorkie009 right of the bat, or learn thru trail and error?
On the other hand.. The ones with emperic knowlage, who have been banned many times might want to TAKE REVENGE ON WORLD!! [Edited on 01.06.2013 7:24 PM PST]

  • There's probably more to the selection process than moderation history; specifically, recent post history can be very informative.

  • It really depends on the person. This is a case by case type of thing. Just because you have a clean record doesn't mean your not a jerk. [Edited on 01.06.2013 7:19 PM PST]
