Is it fair to ban people even if they were trying to stop the discussion? Just a thought.
Anyway, props to whoever dropped the bomb on the flood thread

By posting they are promoting discussion because it bumps the thread. I don't like carpet bans but I understand why they do it.

A user cannot stop a discussion. It's best to just stand back and let the mod tanks roll. Collatoral damage is... an unfortunate necessity. [Edited on 01.03.2013 4:09 PM PST]

I don't like them that much. I don't like it when innocent have to suffer because of the bad guys.

While this was going to happen it put many threads "out of business" because of this.

It was Recon, who gave a great one liner might I add.

I'm not always a serious kind of guy, occasionally I'll participate in a silly thread that may not have an OP that promotes discussion, yet isn't hurting anyone. But one day, I was in a carpet ban for posting in such a thread, and now I don't post nearly as often on the public forums out of fear of another carpet ban. Anyways, I agree with carpet bans when people post in a thread that involves breaking rules that are most strongly enforced, but not for spam-ish threads.
-
People who post "report and move on" should follow their own advice. People who post "this is gonna get locked" should know they are at risk. People who post "inb4ban" shouldn't think that they are immune from their own prediction. Anything else?

Genius.

Carpet bans are fun!

Why is it called a carpet ban?
Posted by: King Dutchy That doesn't change the fact that your PM idea was flawed.
The point is, if people post in a rule breaking thread, be it warning people or not, will get what's coming to them. You know not to bump it so why do it? Again, what Recon said.

Actual carpet!? lulz
I thought it was something along the lines of 'Laying something big over multiple things at once', such as a floor. Members are the floor. The carpet is the ban. You cover the floor with the carpet. The members is the floor.

You mean there are no carpets involved?? No carpets were harmed in the banning of these members
