I can stand shows like Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars. You occasionally learn something, and their's just enough amount of crazy to make it somewhat interesting. But I think I just found where I draw the line. I'm watching a show on old wars. Seems like standard fare for the History Channel. They are discussing propaganda, when they suddenly slew off in a random direction. They decide to talk about what modern propaganda should be like.
They come up with: Bella (from Twilight) riding a horse while launching beer from a t-shirt gun at Justin Biebers face as it rains French Fries.
I'm not joking Flood. Seriousy, I WISH this was a joke thread. What the HELL happened to the History Channel.
Ps. Don't even get me started about the constant dick jokes about Ben Franklin.
Posted by: Y SO REACH BETA
Posted by: True Deception Too much crap, not enough actual history.
You will never find legitimate Science on the science channel, you will never find legitimate history on the history channel. They want views, TV watchers don't want to think.
Some don't, but since I find actual interest in historical matters, I wouldn't mind a legitimate documentary every now and then to break up the mind-numbing crap that seems to be running every time I check what's on there.
-
We need more shows like WWII/Vietnam in HD. I thought those were interesting to watch, and they suited the History channel perfectly.

Im watching Discovery or History channel, because they are entertaining to me.

Yea, after Pawn Stars received some good ratings, the History channel stopped being history. Shows like American Pickers, Cajun Pawnstars, American Restoration, Invention USA, Top Shot, Ice Road Truckers, and the car restoration show really take away from the actual history aspect that I cam to enjoy. Pawn Stars is staged as staged can be. Ancient Aliens is pretty interesting though.
Posted by: NinjaLord77 History Channel is still great and I learn a lot of cool new things from Pawn Stars. The men who built America and Mankind are awesome.
The Men Who Built America was awesome. People called those men evil. Were it not for them, America would not be what it is today. I have a lot of respect for Vanderbilt, Carnegie and Rockefeller.
-
I like Pawn Stars and American Pickers. They have their documentaries during the day, they still play Modern Marvels, which is also great. If I had had time, I would have watched the Men who Built America. Seemed interesting.
-
What? Pawn stars and American Pickers are 2 of my favorite shows. Ancient Aliens is also fun to watch. The history channel is great.
-
A&E lost it's way.
-
I need to get back to watching Top Gears
-
The channel called "Yesterday" is a great one for history these days.
Posted by: dazarobbo Just like MTV.
Spot on right there. When I was a kid, something like 13 years ago MTV was about music and it was great to just switch to that channel and be able to listen to the current hits all day long.
-
Now I'm not saying it was Aliens...
-
I watched History when it still had MonsterQuest, Life After People, and all of those end of the world shows. When those stopped, I stopped.

Does it have Hanna Montana?

But now it sucks. I am also intruiged about these Ben Franklin dick jokes.
All I'll say is one of them involved the busiest little general of the revolutionary war.
Teeheehee OT: I lost faith in that channel a long time ago. They started showing too much religious stuff for me. I'm not saying that religion doesn't have important history, it's rather that they seemed to state controversial things as fact, and that bothered me. Even some of the stuff about aliens bothers me... not because I don't believe in the possibility of life elsewhere, but because of how it is presented.
It's one of the crazier shows, I admit.
-
Honestly History Channel is doing as any other channel would do if it was losing users: do what people want to see. If people stopped watching Pawn Stars et al, and wanted more history-laced programs, than it's probable that the History Channel would change its programming.
Posted by: Defogner History is written by the victors
That's actually false. Victors and losers have written historical things. [Edited on 12.04.2012 1:19 AM PST]
