Should I regret attending a small college vs a big party School?

I am going to attend a small liberal arts school outside of Boston, which is very academically focused. I decided not to attend the larger party school like Boston U, should I regret my decision? I am serious and need a serious answer, was my decision the right one based on the flood's own knowledge and experience? I kind of feel like I'll miss that college experience that is about parties and crazy things. [Edited on 11.19.2012 8:35 PM PST]

 • The true smart people know that college isn't about the piece of paper that you get at the end of it - it is the networking and connections you make along the way that set you up after, especially in this garbage job market. Like it or not, schools with party atmospheres can end up doing that better.

Most other places people don't do it because it looks stupid and doesn't really stand out other than the spacing while on 4chan it is helpful for multiple reasons. As for the second half of your post lol since when did people think an Internet forum is a super secret place?

I am the best robotics programmer on my general engineering project team. Bar none. I doubt you're even studying engineering. Like I said before, I'm smarter than you, I understand the college life better than you, and I socialize better than you. Get over it.

 • Whatever college you pick, as long as it's the right one for you, you'll have a blast. There's obviously a reason why you picked the smaller school over the bigger one in the first place so I believe you'll be fine.

 •
Posted by: CultMiester4000 wherever you go there will be parties.
^This is so true. I am a biology major at an LAC on the west coast. We only have about 1500 students, and yeah, we study pretty hard. When the weekend rolls around, there is always a party to be had, and drugs/alcohol to be found if that is your scene. The LACs are worth it. I have so many opportunities for research that a "State U" student wouldn't have, because there would be too many other students/grad students standing in the way. Make sure to use your close contact with professors to your advantage. It is a big reason why I prefer my school to my home state's flagship. As for this Rose guy; ignore him. He is either trolling, or terribly disillusioned. Oh, and a note: never ask the flood for advice like this.

 • Rose is a perfect example of a closet nerd. Everyone who actually haves a proper social life, doesn't have the time or interest to give a -blam!- who is a nerd or not, and judge people on internet, especially when "nerds" are majority in these forums. [Edited on 11.20.2012 12:43 AM PST]

 • No OP, I went to a small school and it was the best decision of my life. I still talk regularly to all my friends from school and if you can't find a good party at your school just get a group of friends and head to the bars. You can still party hard at a small school (I sure as hell did).

 • I really don't see why the word nerd is being slung around like some sort of social stigma. Just because some people have a preference to work instead of socializing doesn't necessarily reduce them to a level below those that choose to.

 • Maybe Legendary Rose is a nerd, but can't accept it, so he/she goes to all the parties and tries to be cool, but ends up standing alone in the corner. After these parties he/she goes on the internet and calls other people nerds, which is the only thing that makes him/her feel cool. Is that it Legendary Rose? Are you actually a nerd, but aren't willing to accept that fact? I bet you are. You're also a douche, which sucks, because no one likes nerdy douches. Do you have friends? Probaly not. I'd be your friend, but you suck. Must be awful being a nerdy douche that sucks. You're also fat. And ugly. You're fugly. You're a fugly nerdy douche that sucks.

 • Honestly, just name the school. Your anonymity is not at stake here. I can tell you for a fact whether the school has a dominant Greeklife or sports scene, and that will predicate how much of a party scene there is. Going to a top SLAC over a giant public university isn't necessarily a bad move. I had friends at Tufts, Wesleyan, and Amherst that had a better time than friends at BC, Harvard, and BU. A lot of it will depend on how much ownership you take of your experience, but there are smart, hardworking, talented, attractive people at all those SLACs; you should enjoy yourself regardless of where you go.

 •
Posted by: Da Real Caboose
Posted by: masterchief200
Posted by: Da Real Caboose Rose is exaggerating hugely. You're going to be fine. There will be plenty of house parties you can attend. How big is the school (studentwise) that you'll be attending?
It is 3000 kids approx, a lot of them are considered nerds but I guess I will find those who like to party. It is brandeis u btw.
You will be fine man. Focus on your grades, you're going to meet friends and everything will play out. If they have fraternities, rush and if you like any it can help you more if you're that focused on drinking.
It is definetely a big change for me, i live in Brooklyn and my HS has 5500 kids attending it, lots of gangs, kids doing coke in the stalls etc. this college is going to be in the quiet suburbs of boston, a lot of these kids have never been robbed at gun or knifepoint before. I guess you are right though, Ill find parties given I look hard enough. Thanks.
