The B.net community will make an appearance in Destiny.
Some what of a long read. tldr; provided at bottom of post.
Halo CE was the game that attracted people to b.net, but before it was released, Bungie did not have an official place for fans to talk and come up with really wacky, backwards-ass conspiracy theories. It would take several years for the community to grow to the massive size it is today. All the while though, the games they made grew and transformed into a whole new universe. By the time the Community had matured and gained it's own identity, the identity of the Halo universe was complete (or at least very limiting to new stories and information.)
Since the game gained an identity before the community, the community took many queues from the games themselves. Just take a look at the name of our local off-topic forum for example. However, Bungie has separated itself (for the most part) from Halo. Now they are developing Destiny.
While Halo's identity was already formed by the time the community hit its prime, Destiny's is not. The community has had its rhythm for years now. We are looking at Bungie's perfect chance to really integrate the Community into their new universe. This chance only comes once a universe, so it'll be years before they get another.
We don't know if it will be big or small, or if at all (Rhymes lol), but considering their history with easter eggs and what not, I feel their is a good chance for the Community to make some appearances in Destiny. What do you think? How would they do this? What would do you think might add? Maybe, just maybe, a lone employee will read your post and bring it up in the studio. You never know.
tldr; GTFO. Not sure if kidding. Anyways, new universe, more chances to integrate the community into it than the halo universe had.

I can see some things getting named after forum ninjas perhaps, but I don't think we'll be seeing any tributes to regular ole forum goers. But Bungie, if you're reading this, a 'Geegs' somewhere in the game would be fine with me. You have my permission. [Edited on 09.27.2012 1:27 AM PDT]

Well technically speaking some out spoken members of our community have had honorable mentions in Bungies games before. Maybe a few eggs here and there. What I would personally like to see is a reward for the true Bungie fans who have been here for years and stuck through even the dark times.

I think every name of every character should be DMX1337. Despite the confusion that may or may not ensue, I think we can all agree that would turn up the B.A. factor of the game well past 10.

To tell you the truth, never thought about individual members of the community being highlighted, more like aspects, such as memes and tendencies. Individual members would be interesting for sure.

this is a good point, because you have to figure since bungie was forced to leave everything "halo" with 343i, they might be coming up short with some name creativity... although that is like a worst case scenario and highly unlikely.... but you could see forum people getting some special shout outs or they could even go back, dig in their vault and give us some marathon or myth references

You so silly.Bringing bnet into Destiny in a really meaningful way could be difficult. Referencing popular individuals is nice and all, but it's a nod to those individuals more than an acknowledgement of the community as a whole. I'd be interested in seeing some kind of real connection between your presence on bnet and your presence in the game. Perhaps the ability to link your bnet account to your persona(s) in Destiny, allowing Bungie to foster a cross-platform friends list kind of mechanic. This could be particularly useful if cross-platform play between, say, PS3 and PC is possible ( as it is with Portal 2 through Steam ) This could potentially allow a lot of interesting meta-content into the game as well. Consider Demon Souls, which allows players to leave notes to other players, or Infamous 2, which allows for user-generated annotation and rating of quests. Perhaps quests allow you to see annotations provided by other bnet users, or possibly annotations from other members of a group on bnet, etc. Assuming there are things like parties, instances, and raids available, linking event organization tools like calendars between bnet and Destiny would also be a huge plus. I just can't get my mind off Captain Burrito, who had a great stache, spherical head, and used burritarangs before falling in battle. He will be missed. The community is going to play a much larger part of the game than just an easter egg or two.
