Reverse Mail Sack.

Okay, Bungie Community. You asked for the spotlight. Don't melt in its rays. Below are questions submitted by the developers who spend as much time wondering about you as you do about them. Suggested Guidelines: Please post in this thread only once. Failure to honor this request will result in forfeiture of your privilege to participate (or worse). I would recommend only answering the questions that really speak to you. Don't force this. I'll be looking for humor or sage wisdom that could benefit us all. And, more than a sentence or two will be heavily edited or ignored completely. No monologing. Have a ball! Oh, and QUOTE the questions you are answering. The zombie apocalypse is upon us. Most of humanity has already fallen to the hordes of flesh-eaters. You have survived because of your ingenuity, cat-like reflexes, and dashing good looks. As you travel in search of food, you find a grizzled old man who offers to give you a powerful weapon. Now is your chance to make a difference in this battle against the undead. You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why? What do you think is missing from video games right now? Which do you think makes a better e-sport: DOTA, League of Legends, or Starcraft 2? Why? Top Five MCs? (That stands for Master of Ceremonies, not Master Chief. Please answer in the form of five YouTube links.) How and when did you first fall in love with Halo? Which movie would you most like to play as a video game? (please submit your answer in the form of link to an iconic image from that movie) Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general? What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online? What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year? If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be? Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why? [Edited on 09.18.2012 9:40 AM PDT]

You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why?
Fire Storm from Skyrim. Dat -blam!- could kill entire hordes of zombies.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
My brother came home during a break in college. He saw that I had an Xbox 360, which I had just recently won (in a raffle), and decided to get me an early Christmas present. He gave me Halo 3, which we played a couple custom games of, as well as the first couple missions. It was the most fun I've ever had on my Xbox. I instantly fell in love with the series.
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
I was having an Invasion marathon, and randomly ran into Topwargamer, who is the very first regular B.net member I've ever seen outside the site. We were on the same team, working together to keep those damn Elites off our generators. Neither of us even recognized each other until after the match, even though we've already met.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
As in the past 365 days, or 2012? Going with 365 days. Definitely Skyrim. I've put around 800 hours into that thing. Well worth it. There's always something to do.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Mass Effect. Other than Skyrim, there's no game that I've put more time into. I've had so many playthroughs I've lost count. It's really easy to get into, and it does a great job at keeping you in.

 • What do you think is missing from video games right now? Ill bite. I think what's missing is a lack of greed from many developers/publishers. Obviously a few devs shouldn't be included in this statement, for example Bungie or Valve, but many should. While I understand companies must try and turn a profit, they shouldn't attempt to do such through antagonizing their fans. My first case example is Epic Games. With Gears of War 3, day one DLC that was locked on the disk is an absolute atrocity to the world of gaming. It is fundamentally wrong to purchase a video game, and not have access to all the content on the disk. Sure, as a reward (like recon armor), that can be obtained without payment is fine, but forcing fans to pay for weapon camouflage is outrageous. Let's take this up the chain a little further shall we? Microsoft Game Studios, which published Gears of War 3, is completely guilty of corporate greed with their Xbox system. For example, following the release of TF2 for the 360, Valve wanted to release free DLC over the marketplace, as is the norm in typical Valve fashion. Microsoft was having none of it. They have since then forced Valve to charge for otherwise free DLC on the marketplace. Let's go to EA and Activision. While Bungie might not chose this response because of the obvious connection they have to Activision, ill make my side clear. Their absolutely milking of the Call of Duty (or Guitar Hero) franchise has been sickening (or EA with their various sports games). They release a new game every year, completely devoid of any major innovations. Instead of actually caring about moving forward, they really only care about the yearly launch party and what it brings in the way of bonuses. Big wonder that the heads of Infinity Ward got fired, they saw where things were going. No amount of community interaction from the developers can make up for pressure coming from the top to turn a profit, and that's the sad truth. I hope Bungie doesn't turn that way. TLDR: What's missing from video games is publishers (and many devs) actually caring about their fan bases, and not just loading their pockets with filthy cash. Video games shouldn't be seen so much as a billion dollar market as opposed to a way to bring millions of people together, and sharing the sense of belonging that being in a community brings. The sniper! *Realizes he can't aim with the sniper worth -blam!-* ...Dang it.
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
They're all starting to be pretty much the same thing. I need some new stuff! Groundbreaking things that havn't been done before! I'm sure Bungie's working on that. As am I... MUHUHAHAHAHAA!!! -cough- Sorry, what?
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
It was 2005. My cousin brought his Xbox, and Halo 2. He asked if I wanted to play. I saw no reason not to. Though, he did start me on The Oracle, and I had nightmares about the Flood for days afterwords. Sick, sick man. But he got me hooked.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
Star Wars Battlefront. I get to play as a Clone Trooper and blast my way through countless enemys on a planet from the Star Wars Galaxy. Why not?
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
A decent single-player focused RPG that is expansive and has plenty of secrets and unlockables and is not extremely linear or simple. Most RPG's are stale otherwise and are boring!
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
It's not to say they will, but they oughta crack down on the massive amounts of fighting, arguing, and trollish behavior within the gaming community. This kind of behavior only seems to breed more of it.
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
The Advance Wars series on the Gameboy Advance. The competitive strategy involved in order to defeat your opponents in simulated war and being scored based on your performance was simply captivating from the get-go. •
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
StarCraft 2, it's super amazing game, with a great option to create custom maps and toy with all the units of the game, enemy units, it allows you to create your own story and create several more fun maps, which I think it missed in Halo forge, the ability to use Covenant and UNSC units to create your own custom map, not only to build stuff. Being able to use characters from the game to make it more interesting. [Edited on 09.18.2012 7:18 PM PDT]

 •
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Username aside, it was my birthday and my parents bought me a used Xbox and I started with Halo CE. Loved the series since I landed my first headshot on a Grunt.
Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general?
Could it be? Possibly. Can I tell? No, because I still get the same trashy attitudes from randoms no matter what game I play. I feel like the report system is a joke.
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
The idea of maintaining better personal hygiene. [Edited on 09.18.2012 7:11 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: DeeJ How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
I remember visiting my cousin for a get together with the family in 2005. I heard of Halo CE and 2 but I really never found it interesting at first. That was until I saw Halo 2 being played by my cousin. I saw Warthogs and Banshees going at it. Rockets were going of in Coagulation; man it was complete chaos. But it was awesome. I played one game after seeing that. Next thing I know, I buy an Xbox with Live and was hooked ever since.

It has Unlimited Ammo. The Ultimate and Original Zombie Slaying Weapon
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Well I was very young I cant really reacall when it was but I believe I was 7. It was when Halo First came into the world. I did not own a xbox at the time but my older brother did and was being very frustrated at this game. When he had given up I picked up the controller and played it non stop till I came upstairs with bloodshot eyes smiling and told my bother I have finished the game Then proceded to Beg for the game. He finally gave me the game and the xbox when Halo 2 came out.It was Love at first site <3
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
I Was playing with someone online Who is really good and I was doing good but not really good. I was doubting myself when this guy said I could do anything If I try hard enough. So I decided the next game I would go all out. I finished with 30 some kills and no deaths and got my first perfection. There was a guy complaining in game chat and He goes in and says You just got beat by a girl and Everyone just goes quite...I felt so Powerful! and I never doubt myself and now we are really good friends. Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? • Do you think the game community could be doing more to cut down on harassment or unsporting behavior in general? Short, acceptable/ usable answer: If everybody goes out of their way to be the person that says 'good game' and end the bad sportsmanship themselves, the community will become a far better place. I always say good game, and whenever I get it back it's an awesome feeling. Real answer: Absolutely. Does anybody else remember Bungie's 'Team Mythic' playlist? Some notable community members receive mappacks early and I just happened to know one of these people. Those few days while the mappack was limited were some of the best days of MatchMaking I've ever played. Everybody said good game. Everybody was friendly. Asshats were not welcome because asshats didn't get maps. This sort of policing online made the community seem amazing and alive. If people were to shut down the folks that make the community seem bad and also make the extra effort to BE one of those good people, the entire community could be like the Team Mythic playlist was. I aspire to be a part of that. It's why I always say good game, it's why everybody else should always say good game, and it's how the community can make itself better. Mind you it doesn't hurt for developers to provide incentives either! [Edited on 09.18.2012 4:36 PM PDT]

 • Do ships count? If so, the TARDIS, to go back in time and either kill/quarantine the first zombie, or destroy what caused it to begin with. Barring that, the Lightning Bolt spell in Skyrim. Now is your chance to make a difference in this battle against the undead. You can choose any one weapon, real or fictional. What do you choose and why?
I would have to say that weapon would be a nuclear-like device that would, when detonated, would spread out a chemical that makes it's way into the brain of every human on earth and poisons the cells that have been infected with the virus. If no cells were found, there would be no effect on that person, but they could choose to have a superpower of their choice, as long as it doesn't involve zombies, seeing as how the chemical is inside the atmosphere already and would kill the zombies in an instant.
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
An advanced pod, that when entered, would control your brain in such a way that all senses you have would be transported and controlled by a computer, but you would not have control yourself. The total transformation process would take about 10 seconds, and to get out, you would have an option at the menu of the game you are playing. It would include a 9001TB SSD system to store games, and a processor that can reach clock speeds of over 5.0 teraflops. There would be no need for a graphics processing unit, as your brain would function as such by the computer simulating the nerve pulses that your eye sends out to allow your brain to "see" what you see. Also, it would have a hot pocket dispenser that would never run out, and an endless supply of Dr. Pepper and/or redbull. Oh, did i mention it would be over $200,000,000 and would take up the size of a High School Gym? But imagine it! It's like lucid dreaming on steroids!
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
I was at my friend's house and he just got an Xbox for his birthday (2001). He was playing this game called "Halo" that I thought was sort of stupid at first, but then played it for 7 hours straight. He also tried to convince me that he was a beta tester for it, and that his name was in the credits somewhere. Still don't believe him, but to this day, always check the credits when I play it to see if his name is there.
Which movie would you most like to play as a video game?
I don't know, when was the last time you played a multiplayer game? (yes, I answer whole-heartidly YES)
What is the most memorable positive experience you had with a stranger while gaming online?
I would have to say that it was when Corridor Digital were having their first GTA 4 LAN party over the internet. I joined but my mic wasn't working, so when I checked windows settings, it then disconnected me from the lobby. Thankfully, one of the people in the lobby was kind enough to re-invite me, and even help me fix my mic. To this day, I still owe him my life.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Counter Strike: Global Offensive. If playing it hardcore isn't your style, there is a version of gun game that CoD wishes it could be half as good as...
If you could easily teach a thousand people one idea, what would it be?
I would teach them that watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is not just for little girls, and that it is a very good show. Problem?
Is there one game (other than Halo) that you can point to that really hooked you and turned you into a gamer? What was it and why?
I remember playing a multiplayer motorcycle racing game back on the first PlayStation. It was sooo cash. Not much more at that time was more rewarding then running your bro off the side of the road and beating him with a chain as his character just screamed "AAAAUUUUUUGGGG" over and over again. That is the game that made me realize my dream of working at a game studio, more specifically Bungie . Yes, Deej. I did just steal your job of advertizing the career page. What'cha gonna do 'bout it, son? And that concludes my answer. I hope atleast one gets in the final mail sack. Have a great day! •
What do you think is missing from video games right now?
Originality and innovation. So many games are just rehashed versions of products passed. At this rate, the gaming industry is moving away from producing art, to just producing a product to make money and using the loyalty from fans to make money. That's my honest opinion.
How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
It was 2001 when Halo first launched with the Xbox. I was at a friends house and we were playing through the campaign. It was on the second level, 'Halo', when you walk out of the escape pod and then you see it... The sky box, the environment, the Halo Ring... It truly was something special. At that moment I new Halo was something special. From then on, I have been a Halo fan and a gamer. •
Posted by: DeeJ How and when did you first fall in love with Halo?
Probably during Halo 3, when I was playing custom games with friends. The campaign was amazing, but there's some type of marvelous satisfaction that comes with kicking back and messing around in Customs.
What's the best game in your opinion - in terms of value/dollars ratio as opposed to raw quality - that came out this year?
Skyrim. The combination of exploring, fighting, customizing your character, and building your legacy was amazing.
