Chapter Two "Famous Men & Marvels"

If anyone played through the first chapter and enjoyed it, and was considering buying the second chapter, buy it. The second chapter was a lot more fun in my opinion. There's plenty of extra ships, aircrafts, submarines, plus more abilities. Even the story was better. The missions were harder and took a lot more strategy. One of the levels was ridiculously hard. So if people were holding on to their $1.99 to see if the second chapter was worth it, fear no more. It's definitely worth the cash.

 •
Posted by: kegler73 Good point, I missed that, thanks :) I don't know how jailbreaking would allow you to download from iTunes for free, however, as I've had an iPhone for many years and iTunes seems locked down good and tight. But yes, pirating / stealing anything is definitley wrong. Those that do it stifle future iterations of technology as the companies can't spend on R&D until they make profit for their past work. Okay, thanks for the clarification.
If you really want to know a technical description of how they download it, just PM me, as discussion of jailbreaking devices is against the rules and I don't want to get banned. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about where/how to do it, just a technical explantion of how it works. I do not advocate piracy.

 •
Posted by: kegler73 Serious question: how does an individual "jail breaking" their own device constitute stealing from anyone?
You should probably read the thread next before you argue your point. The very last thing I said in the OP was that if anyone was considering buying the extra chapter for $1.99, I said that they should definitely buy it. Then SPRTN One One 7 said:
Posted by: SPRTN One One 7 Buying?! Great, there goes my investment...
Then this guy said:
Posted by: jasonkhalili Uhh, have any of you ever heard of jailbreaking your mobile device?
He was absolutely stating that instead of buying it, you should just jailbreak your iPad and get around paying for the extra chapters. I don't know why this is difficult for people to understand. He wouldn't of even brought up jailbreaking if he was not referring to pirating the extra chapters. Urk at no point was saying that jailbreaking was bad (as long as you don't pirate stuff), nor illegal. He could clearly read through the lines and see that he was talking about pirating the chapters. He even said:
Posted by: urk I'm anti-jailbreaking when it's used to steal. This is not a complex concept.
[Edited on 09.24.2011 6:04 AM PDT]

 • Serious question: how does an individual "jail breaking" their own device constitute stealing from anyone? Jailbreaking is simply gaining root access to the device so that you can run your own kernels, and the DMCA act of 2010 states fairly clearly if you paid for the device you can run whatever software you want on it. If I paid for the phone from an authorized retailer, and I pay my cellular provider every cent I owe them, and I pay for every piece of software I put on it that I don't write myself, how am I stealing from anyone if I change the OS it's running so I can customize a piece of hardware I own to my liking? Come on. If a guy buys a Dell running Win 7 and he reformats the drive and installs Linux that he paid for you wouldn't bat an eyelash. He bought the hardware, he bought the software he's putting on it. So what's the difference with a dang cellular phone or iPad? I own the hardware, I should be able to run whatever OS on it I want so long as I pay the cellular provider and anyone I obtain software from the money I owe them.

Halo is over and now you have a whole new brand of a-holes to deal with. I have to agree with Urk on this one. Jailbreaking can lead to the smaller developers getting screwed... When they get screwed, it has a much bigger impact on them than if, say, Microsoft gets the shaft. Just saying... [Edited on 09.23.2011 10:16 PM PDT]

I honestly don't see how someone can even find honor in stealing and ruining something for someone else.

Urk is trying to avoid a pointless confrontation of ideals. He's the more mature one for trying to put an end to it, all you're doing is making a foolish attempt to coax him into arguing for literally no reason other then to argue. Ergo: you're crying out for attention. It just so happens you got the attention of a Bungie employee. As OP said, let us get back to the discussion at hand, not one of "The Man vs the little man." • The poster was defintely advocating piracy, especially since I was saying in the OP that people should buy the second chapter, and people were contemplating buying the chapter. The poster was referring to bypass purchasing the chapter by circumventing the security of the iPad to specifically pirate the chapter. Urk wasn't saying that he didn't have integrity for jailbreaking the phone, he was saying he didn't have integrity for implying to steal the chapters (which only cost $1.99 for that matter). If possible, I would like the thread to go back to discussing of the second chapter.

 •
Posted by: urk
Posted by: West Highland WT You're making money off of each game bought, so you're going to be anti-jail-breaking -- which is completely alright. However, that's also the issue: You're making money off of the cheap labor Apple is riding in China.
I'm anti-jailbreaking when it's used to steal. This is not a complex concept. China makes components for just about every connected device on the planet. Chances are the device you used to post here (or the components used to build it) was built by someone whose working conditions don't meet our bar. That's very unfortunate, but it doesn't make your position defensible. Or, in short: Don't steal from Harebrained-Schemes (or anyone else).
When I had an iTouch, I just jailbroke it for cool 3rd party apps, backgrounds, and such. I would only consider downloading App Store apps if a free version was not available. If I liked the game, I would do the moral thing and pay the $6. If the game was bad, I would simply delete the "stolen" version (I only played the first mission like a regular demo) I see no real harm done.

And while I believe in piracy, for stuff like old games that are not being sold, or games with no demo (download it, if I like it I buy it, if not delete it), pirating a game from a small independent indie developer is not justified.
