Ha Ha- I have been having Disc read errors for some time now. I called MS tech support. They checked my warranty status and said it had expired, but was still marked in the system as 'active' or something. Anyway, they said to send it in and they would repair the DVD drive. The xbox is an original, produced in 11/2001. If it comes back repaired, Xbox repair center will be the greatest ever!!!
Anyone have good/bad experience with getting Xbox repaired by MS?

I just brought a new pre own one ...and a memory card so I could transfer that saved from my old one

Lemme guess, you had a Thompson drive? I did. It was an original one from 2001. But, I wasn't as lucky as you. I had to get a new Xbox and the stupid $30 memory cards.

you can buy a replacement drive, and install it urself (xbox mods sites can guide you), ebay might have parts to my knowing it shouldnt effect ur xbox overall, but fix the error, but remember doing so is at your own risk as you can damage the box or casue the banning of ur account (not sure of that last one)

I should probably send my Xbox in... It's one of the originals, with the Thompsen drive. Since my brother moved he took his Xbox with and I haven't played my in about a month.

It only cost me $12 to ship the thing to Kentucky. It got there on Monday and was shipped back to me today (Wednesday). Damn thats quick service. I considered repairing it myself, but just took a shot with Xbxo tech support to see how much money they would charge. Free (except shipping) $12<$30 (for replacement on ebay)
