This isn't a post that needs a long explanation, but just a few quotes from the bible that prove that extremely rich people can't truly be described as Christian.
Matthew 6:24:“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Luke 18:25: "For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
Luke 12:33: "Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys."
These are the three quotes from the New Testament that ultimately prove that truly devout Christians can't be rich. If you're a religious rich person, then you'd better be giving a lot away to charity, or you're by the laws of your holy book, a hypocrite.

Being rich doesn't necessarily mean you are a slave to money, which is the point I think Jesus was making. If God is always your first priority then you can have as much wealth as you like, because it isn't getting in the way. But very often money does get in the way, so it is better to not be rich.
You should never take the Bible too literally it was translated like a billion times.
By that logic the pope isn't a real cristian
-
So in other words you want rich people to give you their stuff? You selfish bastard

I demand a small loan of a million dollars.

And if you look to your left you'll see someone misinterpreting the Bible. What you're leaving out is that a rich man came to Jesus and asked how he could buy his way into heaven. The last two as the responses of Jesus to the rich man. The first is saying that you shouldn't serve money as a master and that it shouldn't dictate your life. A good test of this is seeing how willing you are to give. I don't let money rule who I am or what I'm about. Money is nothing but paper and metal, but investing generosity into the lives of others is worth more money than there is in the world. Having money is nice, but money or no money, I'm just as happy because I have everything I need and everything I need I already have. I have a loving family, a warm house, and plenty of food to eat. To me, those are some of the most valuable things in the world. Even if I lacked those, God would provide. If Hod is all you have, then you have all you need.

The rich can be Christian. Cornelius ruled 100 soldiers and was very wealthy. He was also a gentile and Jesus basically said he had more faith than any of the Jews. If you use your money right and keep it in balance you can definitely be a Christian
-
Oh my gosh. I'm in the middle class so this excludes me, but yes rich people can be Christians. Having money isn't a sin at all, it's how u use it. That's what dictates if ur dinning or not
-
But Jesus was rich.
-
Neither can those who love conditionally and make broad judgements be true Christians.
-
If we're going off following the bible to the letter, it would be impossible for anyone to be a true Christian. It's riddled with logical fallacies and contradictions.
-
I'm going to repeat my self again to you on those meanings. The first passage is telling you that there is more temptation to sin when you have money. The second one is talking about charity (not welfare ) that when you give to those in need you are being a good person. Really next time I see an athiest give false meanings on bible passages that they never studied/believe in I'm reporting them. I'll let this one go

You do realize though the whole idea is that people are inherently bad and therefore incapable if making it to heaven without Jesus anyway all you did was point out that people who are christian know they can't make it on their own. In addition money itself is not evil as much as many claim but merely the root of it. Your dollar bills aren't evil using the money for horrible things mass murder etc is bad tho

Edited by Pistol Magic: 1/26/2016 11:16:14 PMIts telling us that its hard to be rich And focus on God. It isnt saying we cant be rich.. You are pulling verses out of context. Devoted to one and despise the other. We arent supposed to be DEVOTED to money, doesnt mean we cant be rich

Hersey was a good man

Sure they can be Christian. Literally anyone can be Christian. Nobody follows the Bible or the teachings of Christ 100%. The only person who did was Jesus himself.
-
I was going to try and counter with some logic but this reminded me of the time when I went to a Christian private highschool full of reformed dutch christians. Every one of them thought the same as this, quoting the exact same thing as well. They were also anti-semitic. I'll just assume your the same and save myself from gettig a headache. The school was shut down a year after I graduated due to the amount of debt they had, $3 million plus. I guess being weathly would have helped, but then they would have gone to hell by your logic.

Pretty sure these have more to do with not being greedy than simply being rich
-
This post hurts my head... Are you being serious with this?
-
Being "rich" doesn't always mean money plus in that last scripture Jesus was talking to a certain man. He was too greedy so Jesus told him to sell his possetions.
