It won because clearly people thought it was fun and more interesting than the same repetitive shooters. I barely played a demo of the game and I know it's not for me, but I understand why it won. Destiny is old now, CoD and Halo have been overdone, and Battlefront isn't even a good game...it's just a really pretty game that banks on Star Wars nostalgia.

I haven't played it, but you have to think about it in a different way. Every shooter is very similar. COD is the same every year, and battlefield may feel different than COD but it isn't as much as it should be. We have to compare the shooter genre to say the RPG genre. RPGs can be completely different, no similarities whatsoever, bust still both be RPGs. To be an action shooter; you have to follow a strict pattern. Splatoon has done something that Activision and EA couldn't do; break that pattern and still be successful. It's very similar to what rocket league did with the sports genre. You have to applaud something like that.
