Refer a Friend Outrage

Are you as upset as I am that you can't do the refer a friend quest because you've already convinced all your friends that cared enough to buy it back in Year one? Can't stand being left out of a fun questline with a friend? Join me and others to create noise on Bungie and help make change!

  • You also can't game share and make a new account to do it with friends. This shit has made me want to give Destiny up for the first time ever, pretty pissed off

  • It's just a few little knick knacks. You want to do the quest? OK do a story mission. Next do six beacons. Now do the daily heroic. Go play some crucible. Do a heroic strike. Finally do the nightfall. There's the "content" you're "missing". I mean yeah the emblem is nice. The emotes are kind of meh. The shader is OK. I'd rather have the main mission sword. Dat Tron Sparrow doh! All in all it isn't as if you are missing out on an exotic weapon. The only weapon is just a reskin of an existing weapon offering no advantage at all.

  • Earlier this month my friend bought an xbox and I convinced him to get Destiny as his first game because I thought it was fun and I'd have a lot of exerperience to share with him. He bought it, and ever since I've literally been on Destiny with him almost every day grinding quests, strikes,, 2-man nightfalls, iron banner, and raids( Including VOG and CE, even though those raids don't drop up to date rewards but I wanted him to have the experience of the first raids before we hit Kings fall, which we did do successfully). Within a couple of weeks I helped get him to level 303 and once we broke 300 I felt accomplished because of his excitement for reaching a high level. And there is obviously more grinding to come for him that I'll help with. Now, with that being said. WHY the **** is bungie dropping this bull on us now? There are a ton of players out there in my situation and we're not getting what we deserve for helping our buddies out in this damn game. It would've made more sense if the quest was released when taken king first came out bc at that point everybody was new and there would be multiple duos doing the quest. Instead they wanna give it to us 2 months after we've already recommended and helped our friends through it. Dont limit our experience because of the stupid decisions you make. Get your sh*t together bungie.

    • I don't like being locked out of content. That's what I have a problem with. We all paid for TTK and this is actual content that "unless we have a new player," we are locked out of it. Period. It's not a matter of sucking at trials and not going to the lighthouse. Or not killing oryx but you are able to try. This literally is unattainable unless you know a new player. That's what I have a problem with.

      • Well, this is all very interesting. First, they tested our willingness to pay for content only available in TTK's pre-order editions using our own money. Now they are testing our willingness to spend other people's money for content only available in this Refer-A-Friend quest. The real shame is that if Bungie wanted to encourage networking (and clearly they do, because so many activities are fireteam oriented and lack matchmaking) they could have come up with a quest that requires you to reach out to someone not on your friends list and go through the quest together. That way you'd build a rapport with someone and possibly make new connections. But, there's no money changing hands there, so what the heck am I blathering on about?

        • Bungie is trash. Garbage. Nothing. Players are everything in this game(in my humble opinion). I wish them luck in extorting any further currency. And they can suck the Destiny 2 price straight from my d**k. And i only spoke from MY perspective. Good luck.

No shit it's a promotion. They're a business. They need to make sales and get new players. Offering incentives/rewards for buying what they have to offer is what they do, and getting existing customers to get the rewards too for voluntarily advocating for the game is a basic business strategy. EVERY business hopes and/or asks for referrals so they can continue BEING a business that makes things you like. What business of any kind says "ok, we've been around for a little over a year now and we think we've gotten all the customers we think we can ever possibly get, so we're just not going to try to get any more."? The only thing shitty about this promotion is they timed it poorly. They should have done this the same week TTK went on sale. It could have been far more effective. But do you know why they did it now? Because Black Friday deals are around the corner and stores will be selling Destiny at a discount and PS4 and XB1 Destiny bundles at a discount. So it makes at least some sense to start the promotion now so people go to the stores/online to buy Destiny with a greater incentive.

I've seen a lot of people argue that other games have a 'refer-a-friend' feature, in which you and your referred friend can get exclusives. This is 100% true, but sadly it doesn't exactly work the same way with Destiny. A lot of the games that are provided as examples are other MMO-type games. LoL, RS, WoW, SWTOR, etc. The problem with this argument is that these games are F2P at least up to a certain point. Destiny isn't F2P. Your referred friend would have to spend $60+ to get the game. That's what a lot of people are missing.

                • So Bungie has produced content for new players to bring in new players, making it easier for those new players to get ahead with unique content only for the new players, and to expand the playerbase whilst ignoring the current community, locking them out of content, never responding on any of the big important issues that have been raised many times (underpowered exotics, timegates on content, extremely high grind, lack of content, useless raid weapons, Iron Banana is useless, no dedicated servers), adding microtransactions while many players have allready paid $200 for the game, making a single dance emote cost around $7.5, and all the while Deej keeps jabbing at an angry community. Sounds like Bungie's doing a great job comon everyone, 3 cheers for a job well done

                  • Bungie must sit there and think of ways of trolling their customers. Someone come up with the idea to give bonuses to people that refer friends after everyone had already done that.
