Fireteam X: Book 4, Chapter 6, the Lighthouse

Episode 6: The Lighthouse Vance looked up from his datapad to see Fireteam X standing before him. "My brotherhood thanks you three for your actions, if it weren't for you, the sanctity of this tournament would be ruined and the Trinary Star would have won." Vance was overjoyed. "We're just doing our job." Dredgen smiled. Kabr looked at him as if he had a horn growing from his forehead. That wasn't the Dredgen they knew. "Well, I think you should keep doing your job." Vance went to grab something from the table behind him. "Here, you have earned these rewards." he handed each of them wrapped packages. Kabr unwrapped his, and was surprised when a golden suit of archaic armor was transmated onto his body. "Woah." Dredgen grinned. "Finally some loot for our troubles!" he adorned the armor, which was Egyptian in design. "Impressive." Toland remarked, admiring his new armor. "It's lightweight, but pretty durable." "It's specially designed for Crucible champions." Vance smiled. "I hope you will use it if you venture into the Crucible again." Kabr stowed away the package, saving it for later, and his new armor was replaced with his old armor. "Vance, I need to talk to Osiris, I need to know the truth about what happened. Do you know where he is?" Vance looked unsure, then sighed. "I know where he should be. He's on Mercury. 84N,32E, the Calorie Spires." "Thank you Vance, here's to hoping we meet again." As they bid Vance farewell, they began heading back towards their ship. They were surprised to find a group of individuals waiting there for them, dressed in red and white. "What is New Monarchy doing here?" Kabr whispered to Toland. "Let's find out." he whispered back, then shouted to the waiting group. "Hey! Who's in charge here?" "That would be me." the leader, a man Toland knew all too well, stepped out from behind his bodyguards. "Imagine my surprise to be meeting you here Toland." "Executer Hideo." Toland said with a grimace. "What would you and your associates be doing here in the Reef?" "We're here for an investigation involving the Trials of Osiris and the actions of the Cult of the Trinary Star." he peered at Toland and his team with suspicious eyes. "But i'm sure you and you're team had nothing to do with that, would you?" "No, not that i'm aware of." Toland shrugged. "Nothing seems to cross my mind, sorry." Kabr raised his hands in perplexion. "We're just visiting a few friends." "What's a Cult?" Dredgen could barely stop from smiling while Hideo's face got redder and redder. "Very well." the Executor motioned to his bodyguards, and moved on. Kabr turned to Toland. "Do you think you can give them some 'engine trouble' before they notice?" Toland rubbed his hands together. "Give me one minute and a spanner.” Executor Hideo approached Brother Vance with urgency in his step. "Do you know who I am?" Brother Vance nodded. "I have a few questions for you about the Trials of Osiris. But first, do you know where they are going?" "You are too late Executor." Vance smiled knowingly. "They will be long gone before you realize it." he pointed. Hideo whirled in time to see their ship taking off. "Follow them!" he shouted to the pilot through his comnlink. "Don't lose sight of them!" "We can't take off sir. We're having some trouble with our engines." Hideo swore. "Should take us a couple minutes to get them working again." "Do you wish to know where they are going?" Hideo turned back to Vance. "Where?” __________________________________ Mercury, Calorie Spires. 84N 32E. "There it is." Kabr eased the ship towards one of the spires. "The Lighthouse." As they disembarked, Kabr winced, grabbing his head as sharp, yet fleeting images of symbols, numbers and code flashed through his head. "What was that all about?" Toland asked. "Whatever the Vex did to me in the Vault of Glass, something about this Vex Architecture is communicating with that part of me." he shook his head, trying to disperse the symbols. "Hey guys?" they turned to see Dredgen ushering them in. "You're gonna want to see this.” Kabr followed him in, and Toland was about to follow suit when he felt a chill, which shouldn't have been possible this close to the sun. "What is this place?” "Well," Kabr turned around slowly, surveying Osiris' makeshift camp. "He was definetely here." "Look, there's an entire stash of glimmer here, enough to keep the city foundries running by themselves for weeks. And there is a ship! Looks like an old FOTC dropship." Dredgen kept looking around. Toland inspected some of the machinery lying around. "This is very powerful technology, it's human made, but Vex in origin from the feel of it. Truly remarkable..." A distant roar of an engine caught his attention. New Monarchy wasn't too far off, they had a couple minutes. "Guys! We've gotta get moving soon! Have you found Osiris?" "Negative, it's like he just got up and left, he was definitely here recently though." Dredgen patted Kabr on the back. "Sorry, looks like we just missed him." "You guys get back to the ship, I just need to do one last thing." Kabr waved for them to get moving. Once they were gone, Kabr approached the golden chest that was in the centre of The Lighthouses antechamber. "What were you hiding Osiris?" he opened up the chest. Inside the chest were two things. one was a letter, real paper and everything. the other was a scout rifle, with a very intriguing make. It was Osiris' weapon, the Fate of all Fools. He strapped the Fate of all Fools to his back, then opened up the letter and read it.
To whoever has found this chest, I offer you its contents, and some advice. The universe we live in has many possibilities, a few of which I discovered when I chose to stupidly enter a gateway to the future, abandoning my dear friend Kabr. If you are reading this, then know I am truly sorry. While drifting through time I saw many possible strands, but one constant in each and every one of them. The darkness is no longer just rising, it is here, and it won't be stopped by simple guardians. We must learn to reach a higher existence, to fully understand our powers extent. When I exited the gateway, I found myself in orbit of Venus. I rushed to the tower to warn the speaker, but the stubborn fool refused them. He was too furious, and rightly so, about me abandoning my team, which I will regret till my end of days. I was exiled, banished from the tower. those who followed me begged me not to leave, but I did. Know this, Guardian. My true weakness wasn't hubris, it was curiosity. I wanted to learn fate. But I was a fool, I actually got my answer, and I am terrified. A wise man knows his fate, a fool merely thinks it. This is what I offer you guardian, the Fate of all Fools, not just as a tool, but also as a warning. The answers you seek for could destroy you, and that is the fate of all fools.
_________________________ the end(?)
