Icebreaker perk completely pointless?
Previously, I thought the Icebreaker's self-titled perk was only triggering on precision kills. After paying more attention to it, I notice it only makes the explosion [i]sound[/i] on precision kills, but it always causes an explosion if you get a kill with it.
However, I've noticed something odd about the explosions. Much like in a Michael Bay movie, they're completely pointless. [b]Icebreaker explosions cause no damage to surrounding enemies.[/b] Even with a precision kill, triggering the same visual/audio effect as Firefly, they cause no splash damage. I even had a scout rifle with Firefly equipped as a comparison, and Firefly causes splash damage, but Icebreaker never does.
If this is the intended behavior of the perk, then I'm left wondering, what's the point? It's completely useless if it causes no extra damage to ANYBODY.

You need to spend more time with the weapon. Ice Breaker explosions most certainly do damage to surrounding enemies. Its just that the blast radius is very small, compared to what you get from Firefly explosions. So you won't take out multiple enemies with Icebreaker, unless they are packed VERY closely together.

PLAY CROTA RAID ! First part... Lamps... How dare you complain in the first place. If you don't like what destiny has to offer, then go do something else.

Take it to the lamps on crota and let a lot of thralls bunch up behind you, turn around and hip fire at one and watch. It explodes all of them and its fantastic! Now in regards to the precision shots...... I think it hardly damages surrounding enemies if ever.... I think it used to but ehhh. Go on and try it, it prob works in other places but I fond it useful only on the lamps.

It used to be very bad, the 'explosion' looked like a tiny puff of smoke and literally hit nothing else that wasn't right on top of it. They expanded the blast radius, but I'm pretty sure it's not as big as firefly snipers, and fatebringer's explosion seems even bigger. Just observation though, never really done any testing.

I often kill 10+ thrall/dregs with one icebreaker shot because they explode. Also gotten a double kill in pvp using icebreaker with one shot because they were standing close together and one exploded.

2 RepliesJust simply not true. Maybe you don't notice the splash damage on high level enemies but for a group of low level enemies such as a pack of thrills one shot will take out three or four at once. Icebreaker is my favorite exotic and I'm pretty upset over the coming nerf

2 RepliesThe explosion resulting from the perk does damage surrounding enemies, that's why you can take out a crowd of thralls in The Abyss with just one shot from IB.

8 RepliesIcebreaker is badass and by far my favorite exotic. During the lantern part of the crota raid you can pull it out when all the thralls mob up behind and explode the whole mob with one round. It is also the only reason I and a lot of people without gjally could beat skolas during solar burn. It's a shame they are trying to make it useless.

9 RepliesThe perk does damage nearby enemies. I've seen this best first hand using icebreaker at the start of the crota raid (honestly icebreaker is the best shotgun for this part of the raid) if you hipfire icebreaker it'll kill a trail and the explosion is powerful enough to kill surrounding thrall. Extremely satisfying

Use it on the crota raid, you'l see the dammage i does on nearby enemies..

It's stronger than Firefly I believe, I was able to get 2 kills with 1 shot while the other wasn't damaged at all.
