Why don't people use different guns for once?

(This is a little long, waiting for reset so decided to just throw this out there to hear other opinions) So I'm fairly new to Destiny (think its been a month now since I started) and this must be a silly question but why don't people use different guns in Crucible? I understand that theres a "meta" and tier lists when it comes to guns for pvp but every single match is about 8 Thorn users, 2 people who refuse to believe there are any other weapons apart from shotguns and 2 people who use whatever they happen to have. I will admit if you look at my stats you will see a lot of shotgun kills but that's because a lot of the time in my matches people keep rushing you with 1 of those snipers disguised as a shotgun and you can't really fight back unless you happen to spot them from a distance first. I managed to reach lvl 5 in IB yesterday which happened to be my first ever IB so I bought everything including Skorri's revenge and despite multiple reviews on youtube saying its terrible and whatnot, I am having much more fun with this gun than I ever did with my Red Death and Hawkmoon. Those 2 killed quickly but I never really felt good about any of my kills. SR at least makes me feel like I'm having fun despite making my trigger finger feel like it's about to break (Full auto would be nice Bungie...) I've even started to use the Monte Carlo I picked up from a PoE chest and again just like SR, I am having fun again compared to when I used the "top tier" weapons. So I'm just really wondering, people who use the top tier weapons such as Thorn, TLW etc Are they just using the weapon for how powerful it is or are they actually having fun? Cos it seems people care about kills more than having fun with the gun itself which to me is more important. Feel free to leave any opinions and I apologise in advance if this question has been raised before, I couldn't find a topic on it.
