Check out planetdestiny.com as they have some pretty good write ups on all of the classes. I am just starting my Hunter for the first time as well after being a Warlock since day one and I also built my Titan a cpl weeks back. Long reply, but the setup is all dependant on your game play style. The gunslinger and bladedancer are very much chalk and cheese. One is terrific for close up and the other is more for longer range. I know that's pretty bland info, but if you were to consider what you would use say in a patrol where you can snipe out in the open (the divide), go for a Scout, sniper and R/L... Hand Canon, shottie and Machine Gun for tighter fights. Just my opinion. The way I build the subclasses is to swap after each achievement upgrade. Also do LOTS of patrolling. By about the L12 missions, you should be at about L15 or even better. By the time I reached L20 with Titan, I was still only about halfway through both subclasses. Hope this was of some use mate.
