Youtubers are spearheading the gjallarhorn requirement.
There is a disturbing trend to PoE right now. [b][u]Every[/u][/b] post for a group on LFG sites has "must hav max gjallarhorn" or something to that affect. This was a rare occurrence, but occurred nonetheless, for Crota's End.
Viewing the popular YouTuber channels has revealed one consistent trend. Every PoE strategy video highlights the gjallarhorn quick kill method, rarely do they actually go into detail about the actually fight without gjallarhorn. This sets a precedent to the community. Why try when you can 30-40 seconds success?

Edit: I would like to clarify that I am not against the gjallarhorn tactic nor am I saying down with the gjallarhorn tactic. I'm saying that these youtubers/streamers are the pro athletes for Destiny. Back when I was a kid everyone wanted to be like Mike, this is no different than with youtubers and streamers.
Not everyone has been blessed, like I have, by RNGesus and has a gjallarhorn. There are many being left out due to the imitation game. I don't think these youtubers understand that their videos lead to a prejudice in the game.

If I want my team to use the Gjallarhorn then that is my prerogative. I do not want to spend more time then I have to wasting my ammo into a boss when my time is both precious and limited. I do not blame players for the lack of Gjallarhorn because I could have bought it when it was sold but didn't, however, I found mine in the VOG chest. If your a player that does not have a Gjallarhorn then find a group to do content that doesn't have those restrictions because there are plenty of them.

Hunger of Crota is pretty much the same thing just without tracking shells and I do just as good... Edit: that's not to say anyone who uses gjallarhorn is using it as a crutch. It's a good weapon I agree! But those who [i]require[/i] it? Please...

Sure it will take longer but it should not be impossible. I've read posts were they took down the level 34 boss with just sniper rifles, no Ghorns. These are the kind of videos that should be streamed as a real how to complete the activity as most players don't have a Ghorn. Myself I have one but have rarely used it on PoE so far. I use HoC and IB for most boss fights to reduce having to look for ammo or pop synths. Most bosses have been stationary so even the Vanguard RL with cluster bombs should work well. If you have a member of you team with an SGA, have him on the retantion bubble duty after he kills the jail breaker as it will not comsume heavy ammo to break, this weapon works in VoG where the bubble is commonly used. These are the kind of tips that should be shown, not multiple Ghorns with Titan bubbles with weapon blessings as the how to complete.

4 RepliesHaving seen many of these videos, I can say those who are looking for quick kills are teams I don't want to play with. They're simply loot farming, and I want to enjoy a good fight. I'm a mediocre player, so it pains me I can't help anyone right now, but having a tool for fast kills isn't how I want to play the game. I saw a video of 3 Hunters taking on the final boss and not a single Gally was used. Fatebringer and Icebreaker were the two primary weapons used to take down the final boss. Sure, rockets were used, but mostly to clear out the adds. If this team can do it in less than 12 minutes (lvl 32, I believe it was) without Gally, then consider the source and determine for yourself how you want to play the game.

This is, sadly, what amounts to endgame. The initial victories are significant because they were the first. Those teams that beat VoG and CE before the plethora of guides showed up actually achieved something. Honestly this is, I believe, a fault on the developers' part. I fail to understand why endgame content is boiled down into a "do A, then do B, then do C, etc." raid format. Raiding is supposed to be a test of skill and teamwork, right? So why not introduce enough variability that fights cannot be beaten by simply mimicking a successful strategy?

1 ReplyThe strategy they show for skolas works just as well with thunderlord and an arc sniper because of the arc burn I have gjallarhorn and me and my friends still used thunderlords instead The same trend of "must be max level with gjallahorn" was common when crotas end first came out. People will realize you don't always need gjallarhorn to succeed once everyone has gotten used to the fight.

4 Repliesif the burn rotates how can gjallarhorn be a true necessity? that's rhetorical. anyone requiring it on an arc burn is as stupid as requiring it in the first place. players need some ingenuity and need to unshackle themselves from the restraints others created. they act like phogoth if he never broke the chains. figure it out mothafukkas.

A Gjallarhorn just makes life easier. Now I can't aim a freaking rocket to save my life.

They need more rocket launchers that deal decent damage that's the problem. I felt the same way until I got one. After close to 800hrs.

7 RepliesYou can beat endgame content without Gally. It's just that people go for the easiest method... Which happens to require gally. It's just a testament to Bungies blatant inability to make all weapons viable.
