WHATCHA GONNA DO!?

Howdy, This is just a suggestion from a long-time reader, first-time poster here. This is truly an "unfinished masterpiece". It's great, not what some expected pre-launch (was thinking it would be truly open-world, but still is bogged down by maps and matchmaking only), but has the potential, with some "TLC" (not Tables, Ladders, and Chairs...although those might have their uses...somewhere) to achieve that greatness, of which there's no doubt it will, given its "ten-year-plan" and the numbers already produced. There was a big backlash after launch, an understandable one, that there was "no story" to this interactive adventure, a claim hard not to concur with, however, after some contemplation, it's fully understandable how this is all laid out, and it's smart. "DLC" has traditionally been mainly ancillary map-packs and re-skins of items, armor, weapons, characters, etc., and not much in expansions of the "main campaign" outside of MMO's (on that note, it is still hard to swallow this is one of those, when it's still more of a FPS with other people vaguely aware of each other outside of matched competitive and co-op instances). This bucks the trend, instead giving just enough content for a given person caught between the "casual" and "hardcore" crowds (known as the "average" gamer to some) to do until the next expansion comes out to the point that it's not too little that this individual grows tired and leaves for either a long-time or forever, and not too much to the point that person feels bogged down by such a mass of content that person quits because it becomes too much for that individual. There is a widespread agreement "among the people" that the in-game "product" could elaborate more upon the happenings and characters of its mythos. Perhaps. However, it is smart to plus the company's online presence and direct users there for further explanation of terms and the like they may not yet fully understand, as there's a massive compendium of knowledge to be found with the researching of "Grimoire Cards" online, and it does register as a mass of hits to their sites, thus generating more ad revenue. Sure, if it were a tad more egregious it would be shady indeed of the producers of this content to do so, however, if one simply listens and reads well enough, the "average" user should have more than a basic understanding of the happenings and characters therein to better appreciate what they're wading through, but this user in particular feels it's about enough and the "bashing" this project gets is hindering everyone's enjoyment in the long-run, if it were to tank...because of it, the time and effort put in, even by those users would have been in vain. There are multiple demographics a producer of any content for any medium of media must try to get something out of, and some of the wants of one group would counter-react another. There is (as of this typing) a show in the running that's recently wrapped up its first season of being broadcasted that fans of which find "mediocre" or less and wish it cancelled, where they are expecting a given character to pop up in the attire of their adult alter-ego's and "save the day", when it's a prequel to an origin story many have been overexposed to in the past twenty-five years, that doesn't mean it won't be a great show for what it has been and will be. Some of these same "fans" who discredit the show claim to like another prequel-to-an-origin-story of a counterpart to this show's main character that wrapped up its decade-long run a few years ago, when this show is basically just like that show, only with a darker tone (it is firmly in the "crime procedural/crime noir/mystery" category after all. This "product" (dislike using that word developers use to describe it, so it's in quotations) is basically akin to the aforementioned show that is bashed, when other users are complaining its not "such-and-such" when it's basically the equivalent to that other show. Does this user think the ability to read "Grimoire Cards" or at least some other compendium of knowledge whilst interacting with the "product" would be cool and appreciated? Absolutely. Is it absolutely necessary to create and add to a fine-tuned multi/universe in its own right? No. It's understandable that some of these fans are simply passionate about their mediums of media, their hobbies, the source material, etc., and their criticism should be taken to heart by the developers of such content (being a hardcore "smark"/online wrestling fan, this is nothing new), however it is not just what one says, it is how that person says it, one may be right, but learning how to argue is a key skill in all walks of life, and conveys intelligence. One could write a paper on why some old muscle car is better to ride than a newer motorcycle or this one individual was or is a better professional wrestler than another for a grade-school final, it doesn't show that person isn't intelligent by liking and writing about those topics, or by what their "letter" grade is in a given class, one does not have to be "book smart" to be "street smart" and one does not have to be one or the other to be an intelligent being (but more on how grades mean little and the "education" system in the country this is being typed from isn't good another time in another forum, this was just a digression/example) as is taught by at least one professor and their work most college freshmen read. The point is, this user isn't trying to call anyone who criticizes a given work a "troll" and/or "wrong", but there is a difference between constructive criticism and "bashing" and "bashing" needs to stop on numerous accounts, as not much good comes from it, if that given fan is passionate and has a problem with something that can change based on their feedback, simply saying "This sucks...uhuhuhuh." and "Ehheh, burn with fire, fire, FIRE!" does little to change the producer's mind, because it doesn't tell that person or group "how" and "why" something is wrong and needs to be fixed and/or potential solutions. Sure, there's a difference between a developer who won't listen to even well-thought-out, opinionated articles, and will proceed with their transgressions (a la opposition to various equal rights activists say, a century or two ago), in which case, some (precise) action (with no collateral damage such as to people not involved) would understandably be something to call for in that case, but one must presume these producers to be of the mind that would read and appreciate well-written feedback. On the topic of feedback, however, this user would like to suggest that some form of matchmaking for more, if not all, forms of group-content, the ability to "split" stacks of various items (be they "general" or "material"), and perhaps the aforementioned way to view "Grimoire Cards" or some such compendium of knowledge while immersed, and not just online off the producer's site to satisfy some of those who cannot find much substance to the "story". This user brings up the first suggestion because some of this content is for dedicated groups of users in "clans" and not all of the fan-base has even one, some don't have many friends or ones that partake in this adventure, and they are not necessarily "terribad" users, but are nonetheless left in the "cold" and ancillary online "group-finding" sites either aren't known to them or they care to use, as an in-game system would be more efficient and effective for all intents and purposes. There, to the developers credit, is some matchmaking, for all but the most recent competitive arenas (the new one needs a system in this user's opinion, whom, upon finding out there was none today, was disheartened by that fact) and harder co-op content, however, in order to reach the higher Light levels, "raid gear" is a necessity and is only obtained from these "raids", one may be a great player but not have the accoutrements of other players who may not be as skilled, but merely have more friends (or friends that play this) than that person, and should not be "punished" for not bringing any friends here. That isn't to say this user thinks the developers made a concerted effort to "punish" soloists or those with few friends or none that also partake in this adventure, but the fact is that there is a "wall" separating those that do have many and those that don't, and for limited-time rewards and the like to only cater to those few, without a larger "P-U-G" system, seems unbalanced to this user, and should be rectified. Yes, trading would "break" this "product" and agree it shouldn't be added, neither should a "chat-box". However this user still would like more matchmaking options. That's all for now folks, thanks for reading and remember to support the local video rental stores and pro-wrestling promotions in the area this is being read from. JMD

      • Due to posing restrictions, namely keeping a post between 2 and 10,000 characters, the following had to be cut and spacing was eliminated...it looked so much more readable before though, hope it still is. TL;DR: There is none! One shouldn't reply if that person didn't read the OP...there's too much of that going on nowadays. Yes one may bring up the aforementioned fact that many demographics are catered to and that mixing "casuals" with "hardcores" would cause dysfunction in matchmaking systems should more or all group-content allow matchmaking, however, there are safeguards that could be implemented to some activities, such as the matchmaking algorithm checking the gear or Light level of each user in the match-making pool that are in-queue "LFG", that would eliminate most that are unprepared for more "hardcore" content.
