To do's/don'ts when preparing for HoW

If you are looking to get the most out of the new gear available when the HoW drops, here are some things you can do to help. This does not guarantee that you will get new gear, but will significantly increase your chances. Understand, that these are merely suggestions. I am in no way trying to tell people how to play their game. This is merely a compilation of ideas and facts that could help those who have more to do than just play Destiny, achieve some satisfaction, with a little less effort. You don't have to use these ideas. Hell, you don't even have to like them. Whether you do or don't, it doesn't change the fact that these things can help streamline your transition into the HoW. Do's; 1. Rank up all factions, including Vanguard and Crucible, to just below rank 3. If you are currently higher than three, then upgrade to just below the next rank. For example, if you are rank 4 with 1200 points, try to get it around 2450. This way you can turn in a 50 point bounty and rank up. If you find yourself maxed out on all factions, vanguard and crucible, pick one of the three factions to stick with, as both vanguard and crucible rep can be applied to the factions, thus making it easier to get back within range. 2. Save cryptarch level up packages. These packages are the only packages that can decode new dlc gear. 3. Save your daily public event rewards. They are worth 5k each and will make upgrading new gear and weapons a breeze. 4. When the dlc drops, use your crucible commendations on a neutral class item. As crucible is the most time consuming to rank up, this will yield more gear and weapons from the nice lineup of new dlc crucible items. 5. When using your Vanguard commendations, keep in mind, that if you are using a neutral class item, the rep will go towards your Vanguard rank. If you are using a faction item. the rep will go to said faction. 6. Save exotic bounties, for weapons you do not currently have. Pre-dlc bounties will turn into new level weapons, when turned in after the doc drops. 7. Decode those faction packages today! The commendations are worth gold when you burn each one (250 exp each) towards the HOW faction level upgrades. 8. Start running vault of glass again - you can get around 20 ascendant mats per hard run (and maybe a sweet piece of gear you don't already own) that can be traded for motes or glimmer - motes are gonna be handy for rerolls & glimmer for all the new stuff you would like to upgrade (no more exclusion zone!). Same goes for CE and radiant mats. 9. If you're glimmer capped, be sure to vault your glimmer consumables, i.e. House Banners, Silken Codex, Axiomatic Beads, and Resupply Codes. Don'ts; 1. Don't save rank up packages, outside of the cryptarch packages. The other packages will not decode into new gear. 2. Don't hoard ANY engrams. They WILL NOT decode into new gear, but they will help you gain more Cryptarch rank and level's to get you more possible chances at new gear. 3. Unless Xur is selling something you really need/want, don't waste your time on him. Historically, his best items were sold around major patches, game release, and dlc. 4. Don't scrap any weapons or gear, unless they have garbage rolls. Everything will be upgradeable. So if your favorite weapon or armor is taking up space, be patient. I will add to and take away from this as people offer anymore advice. Thanks for reading, good luck fellow Guardians... Edit: Added a few suggested points.
