Thorn: How to keep the PVP players and PVE players happy

Like all exotic hand cannons, thorn is able to get a kill in two headshots. However, unlike Hawkmoon where it is RNG based, and TLW where two hip fire headshots are required, thorns is the most straightforward of the 3. In addition to being able to 2 shot kill, thorn has arguably the most well rounded stats and really has no downside. It has an excellent rof, great stability, great range, good magazine size, and reload speed. On top of all that it has an exotic perk that procs every shot, when most other exotic primaries have perks that require a kill or are RNG based My personal idea to bring Thorn in line with the others, and require a bit more of a skillful hand to use, is to make the burning only work after precision damage. It would still be a decent hand Cannon, but would require people to actually aim the gun more carefully and would reduce the effect of spamming the gun, while remaining it's ability to get 2 shot kills. This would also leave it realitively untouched for those of you that like to use it in PVE. Tl;Dr thorns lingering damage should only trigger on precision damage Edit: it would also fit thorns lore better. The darkness infected dredgen Yors mind. Thorn is a weapon of sorrow and the darkness, and the darkness ruins guardians by infecting their minds.

  •
Alright let me walk you through this The gun we have now, is nearly identical to the gun we had at launch. What changed? Mag increased from 6 to 9 Reload speed increased by a fair bit As well as a minor buff to Stability and Weapon Handling (6 rounds, not 5, proving you have no idea what you're talking about.) (The stability buff it got was pretty small, and it always had Perfect Balance, meaning you have no idea what you're talking about) The damage however, along with the DoT, was exactly the same And the general playerbase considered it trash. The buff it got? Did nothing but make it easier to use. Now, before the buff, the "accidental" DoT nerf from 7 per tick to 3 per tick just before one IrB. The gun was useless. I'd actually done fairly well with it up to that point, it was my main PvP weapon. It was hard to use, and I enjoyed the challenge of mastering it. And then they nerfed it, and it. was. unusable. I tried, and tried, but the fact of the matter was, without the DoT exactly where it is, the gun is trash. Another point, do you know what I most commonly hear people say its great for? For doing the postmortem bounty because it's great at getting postmortem kills. ... ... ...
because it's great at getting postmortem kills

getting postmortem kills

postmortem
Postmortem. As in it's great at getting kills after the other guy has blown you (or I) to ash. It's a great gun to get outgunned with! Wait what? If it was so badly OP it wouldn't be so good at getting you Postmortems. Do you know what it really is? Fricking annoying to die to. And the problem with a gun that's fricking annoying to die to, is that you take notice of deaths to that weapon far more than any other weapon. You could get killed by Shingen-E 15 times in a match, get killed by Thorn 5 times, and you'll come rage on the forums about Thorn being OP and everyone using nothing but Thorn. You can go against a team where only a single opponent has it, but you'll rage about how the whole team used it. I've played with people who did exactly that. "The whole effing other team is using X OP weapon!!" I check. It's one guy. I watch the kill ticker. He dies to an even mix of other players, but he only rages when its the guy with X OP weapon. It's called Confirmation Bias And it means, basically, that you see what you want or expect to see. I outgun it frequently with various guns, and I frequently outgun other guns with it. The Thorn is not OP.
-ScribeTheMad

The problem with Thorn isn't its stats, its the fact that it's too common. They never should have made a weapon that powerful that easy to obtain. If it were as rare as the Vex, or Red Death for instance it wouldn't be as game breaking as it is. It should never have had a bounty to obtain it in my opinion. edit - I do like the idea of its DoT effect being tied to precision hits though.

Avid Thorn user here. I got to tell you , it isn't easy killing ppl with this thing. Yeah if you catch someone already in a fight or running a different direction sure, but even when you're good and going in 1v1still takes pose. Just about every weapon with the exception of another non exotic HC makes your sight shake like crazy. It's a dominant blindside killer but an thorn "expert" will tell you if any high impact pulse rifle / AR lands the fist shot (yes I said AR) and your sway isnt in rhythm you had better throw a grenade tuck and run hopping for a good flank around. Advance from a "expert" HC user you should be more worried about a Timlars Lash in ppls hands cause its almost an unstoppable 2 shot if the sway is square. Please keep in mind until they change the game to halo style were ppl all start with the same weapon and pick up others from different spots ... there will always be weapon advantages... period... P.S . I hate pvp , just telling you what I know from experience...

    • Thorn doesn't need to fall in line. Quit trying to control everything.
