Are VOG weapons still relevant for Vog? IE Atheons ep, paradyths revenge.
Sorry for being noobish..lol. the reason I ask is because I run this raid pretty often and never see anyone using it.
I love doing VOG. I prefer it over crota 1000x over. I'm pretty late to the destiny party though, got it in late Jan, but I do my thing. Got 1 32, and two 31's. I never have issues running VOG hard, and that's almost exclusively what I look forward to playing nowadays. However, during atheon I'd like to have a more effective gun for the oracles.
I hear super good advice is the way to go. Being I don't have it, is upgrading my Atheons epilogue and paradyths revenge at least a viable option? Like I said, I never have problems with it...but I just want to maximize the weapons I have. My AE is about one bounty away from oracle disrupter....im assuming it will be good enough right?

1 ReplyI use VOC exclusively for the whole raid. Special and Heavy will vary depending on the area. At Atheon, VOC for supplicants and oracles, black hammer for Atheon. Most people dont understand the power of the black hammer on Atheon. Have a titan pop weapons in the middle, and 5 people hit with Black Hammer (IceBreaker works well too, but need at least 2 - 3 with Hammer). We have killed him in 1 teleport many times with this strategy on hard. Only hit the crit spot, and NEVER shoot rockets or throw grenades. This tends to make him move and people will start missing with the hammer.

The 300-331 damage ratio isn't that big of a difference. Use the weapons that were made for the raid. You'll notice how much easier it is. I use Fatebringer/VoC Found Verdict/Praetorian Foil Gjallahorn/Corrective Measure

1 ReplyAny 300 gun you got out of VOG will do fine the 331 guns only do as much damage as the 300 do to the Lvl cap on VOG

Extremely relevant because of oracle disruptor. Doing hard mode without them can be a pain.

epilogue or VoC wrecks oracles, definitely they two primaries over any other in vog.

Confluence (during all 3 templar phases) because it is still a beast of a scout rifle and its easy to use on oracles when you're saving your IB shots for left/right hidden. Epilogue (during gatekeeper/atheon) mostly as a backup in case I run out of heavy and special and I need to tear thru oracles or a void shield. Never seen anyone break out praeydyth's revenge for anything PvE. Seems like a strict PvP sniper.

Corrective measure and voc is usually what I bring. This way you keep an exotic slot for a sniper. People say that ib is best for atheon, I like p and t. You can normally get off around 10-12 shots. Which will do more damage than icebreaker but does not compensate for primary shots after you drain ib's ammo. But the first thing I said. Yeah!

Anytime I run it I use exclusively use VoG armor and weapons only. The perks are what give you the edge. I'm a big fan of the VoC but since I got the Timepiece I only use that, The Found Verdict and Truth.

I switch to oracle weapons at oracle times, until we can lvl em to 365 anyways

VoC/foil/corrective measure are good for oracles, that's about it. The other are good on normal, not so much on hard.

2 Repliesoracle disrupter guns are better than non VOG guns on atheon. that's my feeling. When i go in to any fight with oracles with a group of people using oracle disrupter guns on we always blow through oracles, we never get close to not getting them. Often we end up standing at the gate waiting for the last two oracles to appear. I've only tried sga once. It was ok but heavy's do an ok job. but don't use them unless somehow i run out of ammo. I use VOC cause i never run out of ammo. I'd prefer to have a void heavy or void rockets cause they help with the minotaur when you get teleported also. Before that Atheons Epilogue which is good for oracles and basically nothing else. My go to setup is VOC, ice breaker, void radegaths with three rounds. VOC has plenty of bullets, good on oracles, can hit atheon when my icebreaker is reloading. Ice breaker cause it's easy to get precision kills when atheon is still, never worry about ammo, decent on oracles if you need it. Void rockets, cause they'll annihilate a minotar shield making them easier to kill for the relic holder. That said i just got a gjallhorn so next time i'm running it with that. I'll probably just rock an ldr instead. That said if nobody I find rockets and grenades move atheon and make it harder for sniper to get precision hits and really may just make the fight harder. I've been in a group that killed atheon on the first teleport with weapons of light and 3 icebreakers and 3 black hammers

3 RepliesIf you can get sword breaker from crotas end then that will kill preatorians in 4 close hits as it void shotty with 6 rounds. Makes it easy, but I always use raid armor and weapons. People say can you change to 32 and I say yes, but the perks you get from the armor make your job a little easier and VoG is capped at 30 so it makes no difference to damage

Atheon's Epilogue has never been relevant. Vision, fatebringer, foil, found verdict, praedyth's revenge and corrective measure definitely still are.

4 RepliesFor a long time, the only VoG primary I had was Atheon's Epilogue. Maxed out, with stability choices in perks and barrels, it was my go to for Atheon, Gatekeepers, and even spire. It worked well enough, and better than any other primary choice I had. Then I got Praedyth's Timepiece, the arc damage pulse rifle. I was leveling that up in the hopes that after the AR nerf and the pulse rifle buff, it would be even better. Never got a chance to try it out. Finally got Fatebringer and leveled that so fast I couldn't believe it. Took it on my next hard Atheon run. I melted the oracles so fast the other guy shooting with me had to comment how he couldn't even get a shot off. So for VoG runs, yes, VoG weapons are still very relevant. However, different parts and strategies benefit most from specific weapons, so switch often, and don't be afraid to ask. Just for Atheon hard though, the key things you have to be able to do is kill oracles, damage atheon, kill Supplicants, and get out of the bubble quickly and efficiently. Fatebringer or VoC can do them all, but you can save it for oracles and Supplicants. I go with a full auto high range shotgun for bubbles and Supplicants, like Found Verdict, but a fusion rifle or icebreaker are good here too. Finally Ghorn for Atheon, or if none available, Hezen Vengeance does good work, but if your sitting in the middle shooting from within the shield, go with a balanced HMG, or Corrective Measure if you can. All in all, for that last fight you can have 3 weapons that all have oracle disruptor. Almost any combination of the VoG raid weapons can work very effectively there. None of them make you better with the relic though. That's on you.
