How do you justify RNG?

Question/Feedback for Bungie. How do you justify having a random loot system in your game? Rewards which are not rewarded based on player skill or achievements? I have nearly 800 hours spent in this game, according to destinystatus.com's Total Time Played, 3 32's, one of each class. Yet it took 800 hours for the first Gjallarhorn to drop in one of my games, and it was not for me. I have every other exotic weapon in this game (pocket infinity and invective almost completed). Yet there are some people stating that they have received 3, 4 or >10 Gjallarhorns. How is this a fair and just system for your players? Who should be the most important aspect of your game. Now there are rumours that you have removed Gjallarhorn from Xur's loot table? For your sake, and for the sake of this game I really hope this isn't true. You have already lost so many players due to their battle with RNG, how many more are you willing to lose? I love this game, your loot system just needs some serious attention. Please clarify for the sake of the community if you have removed Gjallarhorn from Xur's inventory, and I would also like to see proof that every guardian has the same chance at receiving a certain exotic, because right now, I feel like my chance at a Gjallarhorn has been nerfed to 0.

  • Ok... so i just read one line of this. A weighted system clearly would disadvantage players with lower level equipment. So all of the lvl32 elitist that actually live in the tower would always get the best gear.... simply because they would know every facet of the game, and already have the gear to out damage and out kill you. If the loot system was weighted you would probably complain about that to. This is the only way to ensure that all guardians are treated equal. If you don't like the RNG stop playing. It's never going anywhere, and this is the way it will be until this game goes offline. I agree it's frustrating sometimes, but I also know that eventually I'll get mine.

    I agree and I don't care about the opinion of other people regarding the game's RNG,but imo it is broken as hell. I have been running CE 3 times a week since mid Jan. on normal and Black Hammer dropped more than 10 times for me, the helm drops every time Black Hammer doesn't drop for me. All I want from CE is Hunger of Crota, my clan mates gets Hunger every second run or so. I dont care about Gjalll what so ever. Hunger is a better option for you can carry other exotics in primary or special slot that gives you an overall better weapons layout. Here is my question, why would the RNG give me the same weapon more than 10 times and the same Helm every other time? I am wearing the gear, I have Black Hammer equipped, why let it drop for me? RNG is not functioning correctly and the algorithm should be adjusted. Another example: Last night I ran the NF with a buddy while on my Warlock( I am wearing Apotheosis Veil, he has Gjall equipped) and what drops for us? I get Apotheosis Veil and he gets Gjall... This is not the correct functionality and there is no way anyone can justify this issue.

    • Fireteams armed with maxed Gjallarhorns would make a mockery of any boss fight.

        • I don't believe it's random, I have gotten 10 Vex Mythoclast in maybe 30 Aetheon hard kills, I think the algorithm has flaws and latches onto items you have, no way should I have gotten that many, 3 in one week.

            • RNG is there to reward weaker players. Bungie wants everyone engaged, it doesn't want skilled players leaving everyone behind. Another reason (the main reason) is that RNG is more addicting. Basic behavioral science.

                    To me this is a so-called random system, in fact it is not. I believe it is a complex equation with variables which keep changing by what you did since your char was created and what you did in current event. (and may be more, we just don't know). I get gjallahorn this week NF event, here is what I did last week. I did what I did not ! I don't usually play ROC strikes, and do bounties daily only on my warlock which is created after my Titan before my hunter. But last week, I start doing ROC strike, a few Eris daily bounties and use only this char in RAID, completed both Crota NM and HM, NM VOG. I get my weekly vanguard marks maxed. Then, I get my 1st gjallahorn in this week NF! Here is what I want to say to everyone still fighting and waiting your gjallahorn . Try something new in your destiny playing pattern, if what I think and experienced was true, then you may get gjallahorn like me.

                  • It's random. I apologize for your luck, I hope you get all you desire from the loot system but that's how it goes. Everyone has that exotic they can't get.

                  • I very much doubt they would go through the effort of making some people more or less worthy in the eyes of RNGesus based on the amount of effort they put into everything else (ie very little), so presumably everyone has equal chances. Unless of course you piss off our Lord and saviour so RNGesus decides to fill your boots with crap. Basically, you're just upset that you don't have the Gjallarhorn? Yet you have every other exotic, apparently, so why not just use one of them instead? Gjally isn't THAT amazing. I don't get why everyone is so mad about it. And I doubt it's been removed from Xur. It's just the way the randomizer works - too random imo. Not even a vague kind of cycle to it. Same reason players get the same loot over and over again, or one plays the same 2 strikes over and over in a playlist.

                      Omfg... RNG is fine. So you don't have the best PvE rocket launcher in the game. So what. It's stats are comparable to other launchers in the game. If it had cluster bombs instead of wolf pack, I bet none of you people would be crying about it every day. It's a game, not real life. If your [u]friends[/u] exclude you from activities because you don't have one, delete them. Any rocket in the game can have tracking and cluster bombs at the same time (which is the next best thing). Hunger of Crota comes that way [u]every[/u] time. Go drop Crota on normal. If you're on XBox 360, I'll carry all of you all day, every week till you get one if that'll stop all the crying. It's sad to see all these grown people complain and complain over a drop system just because of one weapon. The best things [u]always[/u] have a low drop rate or require some crazy task to be completed to obtain it. Someone even posted that it needs to be removed from the game or free distribution like two days ago. My friend has been playing as long as I have (November) and I got the Gjallarhorn two months in and got a second one another month later. He got his first one two weeks ago from a [u]legendary engram[/u]. Think he cried and complained about how "unfair" it was? No he didn't. He used Truth and Hunger of Crota. You guys are making me sick. I looked at all your characters and added up your kills for strikes, raids, and PvP and they don't even add up to my main character's strike kills alone. You barely touched the game and you're complaining.

                      • RNG is impartial, but it isn't "fair." The thing is that there isn't enough loot to have a different system.

                        • All I really want...is for the devs to update the chest loot tables to increase the average of getting a drop to reflect anything other than mats and greens. Everything else in regard to the RNG is all good IMO.

                            • The RNG system is there to make getting loot as fair as possible. If it was based on skill, then the good players would get stronger and the bad players would get weaker. The bad players, who love the game nonetheless, will quit the game because it isn't fun constantly being dominated by guys with the best guns. Even you would probably quit because of that. Not saying you're bad but there will always be someone stronger than you. And you can't base the RNG on time played because that wouldn't be fair to the players who love the game but don't have time to put hundreds of hours into it. If it was based on time played, then only the Twitch streamers would have the best stuff and the family man with a full time job would get screwed. The RNG is there so that EVERYONE has the same fair chance to get good loot.
