I see so many games spend so much time and money hiring the writers from this movie or that show or where ever. If a company went all out on a game with no story would you buy it?
And I'm talking a top quality FPS along the play quality of a destiny or Halo. But if they gave us a map editor, every co-op play mode they could dream up, great balance in weapons, tons of great maps and multiplayer sizes from free-for-all to 32 vs. 32 lobbies. Would you be willing to pay full game price for that and what makes you vote that way?
It just seems to me companies are spending so much on writers, actors and directors that after all that they don't have any money to make the game actually playable. And the story just leaves us with a collective, "meh". Hardline has a story but no one seemed to put time into spawns or weapon balance. Destiny hyped the game so much and while it play beautifully the story leaves you flat and the multiplayer modes are horribly limited.
Ok first edit: since there are so many snarky kids out there who can't add anything other that. "I bought destiny didn't i." Or "yeah it's called Destiny." I have to remind you of a couple thing. Destiny has a story. Sure it's not the sweeping epic they told us it was going to be. Yes it introduces characters like the Queen who just make you ask "why is she queen and why should I care?" Sure the Stranger hands you an important gun that's supposed to help you that you basically just part out. But it does have a story. A story of a guardian and his ghost who can't open a jar of mayo without setting off an alarm.
And secondly, this is about a hypothetical FPS not Destiny. So if all you can add to the conversation is how much you don't like destiny I'd rather you post a Lenny face and move along.

Bought titanfall, wasn't disappointed.
-
I would hate an FPS without a story. That's why I like Destiny
-
It would have to have lots of fun game modes other than your standard deathmatch and allow you to add bots to your custom games like many games do.
-
Yes I would. Bought Battlefield 2142. Was not disappointed. At all.
-
I already did. Borderlands, then Borderlands 2. The story is basically the same.
-
As per your edit --- I bought Destiny.

Edited by Asriel Memurr: 4/4/2015 1:16:00 PMWell, we all bought Destiny.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Some need a story. I think Battlefield and COD could do without a single player campaign. If the developers only focused on multiplayer (which is why 90% of people buy the games) it would be much better and probably less buggy.
-
I bought Destiny.
-
I would if it had many other thongs. I'm not crazy about story mostly PVP you may be the opposite and O totally respect that. Good day
-
play quality of Destiny
I'd do my best to avoid spending a single cent on it.

I grew up playing story. I've played halo 1-3 so many times I could probably count the hours in years. But recently (last 5ish years) I have yet to have a game that I WANT to replay the story. But is a multiplayer only game had good enough gameplay and creativity to make it unique not just another cod or halo PvP I would definitely buy it

A few years ago I would play the shit out of story modes in CoD halo gears ect. I'd even buy games that didn't even have multiplayer. I was an achievement whore. Nowadays I couldn't care less about a games story. Didn't even touch CoD story, only did destinys story to level up to 20. I always skip cutscenes Personally I think people care too much about story, I just like playing the game.
-
It really depends on the side features it adds, as in the zombies modes in black ops is why I have those, and whenever I put them in that's all I play
-
We already did lol
-
Is this a nessicary question were all on the destiny app even if we like it or not we have all had or played destiny at one point and that is an FPS with a shit story that i would compare to nothing

I guess it's sort of like Evolve. There's not much story, except in dialogue, but it has great gameplay and its a full price.
-
No. I buy shooters to play the story. ALWAYS play the story first since some maps will carry over to mp and it lets u get the feeling for guns and use the ones u like best in mp
-
I do not care about story as long as a game is fun.
-
I bought titanfall.
-
Well... I bought Destiny so...
-
-
For full price? No. If you're going to have a multiplayer only title in 2015 then you're best off putting it out with a F2P model. Part of why TitanFall underperformed was because of this. And now you can bet TitanFall 2 will have a campaign.
-
Evolve sounds similar to what your saying minus custom game modes and map editor. Got the game solely because I wanted the 4v1 game play. And 16 maps, 12 hunters, 3 monsters, and 3 modes makes for some enjoyment.

if you give me minecraft plus borderlands plus just cause plus Guerrila yeah i am good without history
